Got off the water at Calaveras yesterday evening and I had a voicemail on my phone. Called back and spoke with a young man who had a catfish that he needed weighing. We made arrangements to meet when I got back home. In the dark, we weighed, photoed and measured the fish, an 8.34# channel cat, 26 1/4" long, 15 1/2" girth. Paperwork being submitted for certification as the new water body record. Guess I'll have to get back to hitting Bastrop on a regular basis, it's been turning out some solid cats in the past few weeks, this is the 3rd fish I've weighed in the past month that tops the 7 pound mark. (And yes I'm losing the lake record for a while, but I'll be back.)

What is cool is that the guy who has the current record helps some body certify a fish that will be it. I don't see this in many areas other than catfishing. Good job Lonnie!
