Started in the morning fishing the main lake for bass because I didn't want to attempt going up Lake farther than Thousand Trails in the thick fog. By late morning the fog cleared enough and I went about 1/2 mile upstream of Pop's places where the river starts. Water temperature was 60 degrees in the river. I caught several small Largemouths like this one. I also caught some bluegill and longears like this. I wasn't able to find any whites upstream of Pops so I fished the river channel I mile or two downstream and was able to find a few whites but nothing of any size. I'm sure the white bass fishing is going to be improving each day as long as we don't get any major cold fronts. After about an hour I got board with the whites and fished the main lake for largemouths. The largemouths are starting to move a little shallower and caught many in less than 20 feet of water. A few weeks ago most of the largemouths I was catching at Medina were in 25 to 50 feet of water. I look foreword to the largemouths becoming more active over the next few weeks. Surface temp on most of the main lake was in the mid to upper 50's. Here is my best largemouth of the day. It goes about 4 lbs. It was fun to catch on an ultra light with 4 lb line. Here's one around 5 lbs that I caught at Medina a few weeks ago. The last three years I haven't been catching many bass larger than 2 lbs at Medina but it has been more consistent for 2-3 lb bass the last few months.

You have any tips for the main lake? I fish it quite a bit but can only hook up on the river or at the mouth of the river. I normally try and hit the secondary points and structure with soft plastics texas or carolina. Am I using the wrong rig? Any help would be appreciated. I was in the All Black Southbay Pontoon. I probably saw you out there on Saturday.

I love Medina and it's proximity to home. I've only been going there since last fall, but I've really enjoyed it each time. The day I can consistently catch 3-5 lbr's on that lake is the day I stop going elsewhere. I know that lake has some big bass in it...i've seen them in shallow water on more than one occasion. I just havent' been able to put any consistent numbers together. It sure is a beautiful lake and I like the lack of heavy boat traffic, although I'm sure that changes in the spring and summer. Congrats on a good day!

I've caught bass on Medina with all kinds of lures such as topwater (poppers, stick baits, frogs, buzzbaits, etc), spinnerbaits, crankbaits, Texas rigs and Carolina rigs of all kinds, jigs, swimbaits, weightless rigs like senkos and flukes, live bait, rattletraps, jerkbaits, tubes, grubs, roadrunners, spoons, inline spinners, etc.
This winter I've been catching most my Medina bass on finesse tactics such as shaky head and drop shot. Many have been caught on 4 lb line and have been moving the baits very slowly or just holding them dead still.
Things are going to be changing at Medina the next few weeks and you should be able to catch them good on whatever baits you like to throw best.
With Amistad, Falcon and Choke Canyon not far away, the hardest part about bass fishing around San Antonio the next three months is going to be deciding where to go.
