caught a fish and dont know what it was, body shape of a large crappy with one fin on the top. It was a bout 14" long. Any thoughts?

Probably a male Crappie if it was really black, they load up with testosterome this time of year.

May even be a Talapia but have never heard of any out there.

Just found some picts of SHAD and think that was what it is. caught on a rattle trap. the sides of the fish looked like it had been attacked, sores all over it.

A grinnell has one long fin on top, but doesn't look like a crappie. I have caught grinnell or "bowfin" on Fork, but they are rare. No Talapia on Frok.

Snagging a Gizzard shad on a trap is fairly common around here. They get pretty big.
