Ditto to every thing Team Catfish said,
Fantastic story and it flooded my mind with great memories, most with fishing buddies who have gone on. Thanks for sharing!

Great Story! Brings back some memories of my raising in south Louisiana. Crawfishing in the swamps. And, for some odd reason I still hate snakes! Not hate, terrified.

Hearing about snakes is one thing, but when you look down and ones between your legs, its a whole new ball game.

Good story!!!

Lots of memories here as well, even some include snakes. Snakes don't really scare me, but I still have a little respect for them. Have even had my footprints right over rattlesnakes. My Mom can vouch for that one, as she was there.

Two favorites, of which I was not there, are these briefs:

My first Father-in-law used to hate snakes, scared silly of them. He was running up the Navasota River from Democrat Crossing to where Cedar Creek fed in, as it was where he had his lines set at. He was in a little 12 or 14' semi Vee with a motor. A snake (did not matter which kind) drops in the boat from overhead. With Jimmy that was it. He was airborne, flew up in a single jump up on the bank. The boat was still running without him. Finally it hit a snag up ahead, as the river is fairly narrow. He gets up to the stuck boat, motor still running. He fished around, but obviously the snake had airlifted after their encounter & was not found, so he reclaimed the boat & continued on.

Another one was my Dad & Uncle, who were with my Granddad (my Uncle's Dad). They were seining an old sleugh (former riverbed). They had seen a snake swim up ahead, then disappear, but kept going. That is ... until my Dad felt a thump, thump slapping his rubber boats. Wellllllllllllll!!! Things change real qwik!!! Dad stated it, and my Uncle confirms the account next. Even though the boots were underwater, my Dad shot straight up out of them to land on a 4 foot embankment, as if a Kung Fu master. However, the boots were still stuck in the mud underwater down below. My Uncle was asked to retrieve them, but refused, as he knew if the snake was still there, it was ticked & might still bite underwater. They never said who retrieved the boots.
