Went out to LLELA Park behind lake Lewisville's Dam . Went Fishing for Cats and Sand Bass and Ended up Catching 6 Good Sized cats and Two 12 inch Trout which I didnt know they where stocking the lake or the river with . Its Located at Jones st & North Kealy Ave in lewisville tx the park is open on sat and sunday from 7am to 7pm . the best place to fish is at the lower end by the rail road tracks there is a big bowl area and the water is deeper there Park at the first parking area and walk south on the trail . another good area is right by the primitive camping area . the spill way is ok but is usually really crowded .

Good report. Surprised there are trout there.
Were you catching trout and catfish off of the same bait? Guess trout would hit shad in that environment. I could see minnows or nightcrawlers working too.

Trout? In Lewisville? ...Get any pictures of them? Wonder if someone caught them from one of the stockings and dumped them in there maybe?

I was using live shad and Minnows for the Sand bass for the cats I was using shad with the tails cut and Chicken Livers . The trout hit on the dead shad and the livers . I think they are stocking the river with them close to the damn Becuase the water level just 100 feet from the spill way was 4-15 feet deep all the way down the trinity to the railroad crossing . Now the water level is only about 2-3 feet deep with river Rock also the water is pulled from the bottom of the lake keeping the water temp in range for the trout to live but I havent found anything yet on the LLela Web siter or TPWD web sites

Remember...the water turns over, so the water on the bottom hasn't necesarily been there for a long time, so water temperature can vary. I'm sure the trout are from stockings....can't imagine them being there naturally. -Alan

You mean this? http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Jones+st+%26+North+Kealy+Ave,+lewisville,+tx&ll=33.063061,-96.987605&spn=0.016652,0.029247&t=k&om=1
I seriously doubt that the authorities are letting water out of the lake to keep the trout alive. They do have a requirement to keep the river flow going enough for natural fish to live -- to keep that river a viable ecosystem.

There is a requirement for the river to run, plus, there is a hydroelectric plant there (I believe it is only there to provide power for the workings there).
Weird on the trout, but its always been great fishing for me there. Its one of those places you can throw something small (roadrunner, etc) and catch 5 or 6 different species in a few hours.
Is the camping open yet?

The Lady that runs the both at the park told me that the smaller spill way runs constant so there is always water flowing into the river from the lake its not a whole lot just enough to keep the water level constant and as for the trout I dunno it might have been a fluke I stil havent found any info on them stocking the trout on that part of the trinity . unless they where stocked by UNT for some reason .

I heard they stocked some trout, limited number, this year as a test and that TPWD is considering adding that area to the stocking schedule next winter.

How do I get there from here in Dallas? Can you fish near the dam without going into the park. If not what's the park's fee and hrs. of operation?

The park is open Sat and Sun from 7 to 7, I think. It is $3 a person to get in (unless you are 5 and under). I didn't go in to the park itself, but I drove around it looking for access to the river downstream and could not find any access, so I think you have to pay to play.....

Well guys, pictures don't lie. I took my son out to this park, it was pretty nice. It reminded me of the rivers I am used to fishing. We walked along the "road" for a long time, past some camp grounds. Never made it to any railroad crossing, which was what I was looking for, but I did end up finding a decent spot where there were a couple of areas of slow moving water droppng off deep into faster moving water, which is where I caught my fish. We were at that one spot for probably 20 minutes, caught 3 sandies, 2 keeper size. I have included pics of the first one that I caught. Will probably visit this area again, especially if I have the weekend to myself, a lot of walking, pack a cooler of your favorite beverage, alcoholic or otherwise.
