I was there with the kayak on Sunday. Pretty cool to see the creek flowing along just fine, then a 25 foot deep trench 100 feet wide all the way across the stream bed, then the creek flowing along normally again. We portaged around the area, but I don't recommend it....steep and muddy bank in the only spot to land. Got it done, but it was messy. We managed to avoid being neck-deep in the creek, too! (Been there a few times in my years fishing there).

We didn't have much time to fish...getting dark fast. Caught one nice 18" LMB on a chartreuse 1/16 oz. curly tail jig while dabbling some brush for crappies. That was it for the afternoon, though. Only fished for about 30 minutes.

fishinmachine where did you run your trip from? put in at 35 then down to 377? or paddle upstream? just curious, and if so about how long would it take to run the creek?

Went out on denton creek monday hiked down to the dam that is inbetween 377 and grapvine lake. walked over to the lake side of the dam (east side) and caught lots of larg sandies. was a bit of a hike and the bank was steep. used jigs really slow in the murky water about 100 yards down from the dam. I dont think the sandies are geting any further up streem from there. be sure to get out there as soon as the sun comes up.

Caught 8. all keepers. one on the fly rod. used a 3" slider slow on the bottom for the others. couple of guys in a john boat got as close as they could to the dam and were catching. noticed they were using a diff technique than me be it was still slow and looked as if it was working better. perhaps not on bottom. also noticed the pipes they were using to let the creek flow through the construction. looked to me as if the fish wont have any problems swimming up stream to spawn still. so north of 377 should still fish well.

Texifornia,
Nice - 8 keepers! Sounds like you were just downstream of the dam? That's good news about the fish being able to get through. I'm thinking I might be able to get out there NW of 377 this weekend.

Anybody been fishin' upstream of the dam care to report?

I'll be out there in the morning. Should be fun. Found a good link...think all the stars should align tomorrow.

I thought they might really stack up right there at the dam. Still thinking that will happen. I tried to paddle to the dam from Trophy Club Park but it was windy and I didn't get that far.
Hadn't thought about launching at 377 and then carrying over. That sounds a lot easier than what I tried.

I hiked out there last night and checked it out. I parked at the bike trail entrance north of the bridges. It's an easier walk if you take the north bike trail to the North/South road they've cleared, then go south to the creek.

Carrying a boat across might be a bit of work, probably have a couple hundred yard hike up/around the site, I didn't walk right through it, it's pretty dug up deep.

Fished below the dam for a few minutes, just caught one little guy.

I think they'll be able to get through that pipe just fine, maybe not the same numbers, but I bet you'll catch plenty above it.
