My neighbor’s boy wants to go fishing, but he is a little worried about going out in the boat. We would like to take him somewhere close and fish about a half-day at the most. I'm a fisherman so I know there are no guarantees but we need some place that our chances of catching fish are great.
Thank you
Want to get him hook on fishing soon.

Depending where you are at, some of the best places to catch lots of smaller bass, panfish, is at Bedford Boys Ranch. Otherwise, hit the shores of any lake this time of year with a bobber and some worms and the kids are sure to get a bite.
Banks I would cast out for panfish are:
Grapevine Lake Joe Pool Lake White Rock Lake The banks anywhere along the Trinity in the DFW area.
Have fun!

Go to Lewisville and hit the Marina or the bridge with some minnows. They'll have a blast. Have fun! :p

You are right dmunsie,
Get the ole small bream hook, split shot, and bobber out and thread the earthworms on. The kids will catch until they can't stand it.
My 3 year old says about 100 times, "I want to catch another one"
And we always do!
Takes you back to when you were a kid and almost everything was like magic.

"My 3 year old says about 100 times, "I want to catch another one" Yepper, but don't make the same mistake I did when trying to "force my addiction" on to my kids. I kept my kids out TOO long, we're talking hours at a time. I couldn't stop!! Now, years later I'm the only one left with this addiction.

Have you tried the parks in Denton (my guess is yes) ? Northlakes and South Lakes both have ponds stocked with little catfish and bluegills etc.
Keep 'dem lines tight and enjoy the fight....!

I have two teenage sons that have been trying for weeks to catch fish off the bank at Hubbard. Does anybody know of good locations go catch anything besides small perch. I took them at 6:00 a.m. Saturday but we didnt get a bite. Any marina's or docks that are baited? Any good spots would be appreciated. Thanks, Terry

The two ponds in Denton, both at Northlakes park have decent bank fishing. They hold plenty of bass. I've never tried for anything else, but have always caught bass out there, biggest was 4 pounds this year. Lots and Lots of lilly pads and coon grass though. The little pond is North on Bonnie Brae, just past University street. Can't miss it. It's 15 acres and you can bank fish from all sides. I like watermelon flukes here, but I usually take my little bass buster and fish a channel out in the middle. Good luck.

I am looking to take a few kids out for a fishing trip. I think I could set up a small outing for 1 adult and upto 3 kids. I would have to double check with the landowner for permission and a date we would be on the property. The pond has lots of perch and some bass and crappie. If someone is interested leave a post and an email address and I will see if I can get something set up. Also, I live in NW Tarrant County and that is where we would do the fishing.

Breckenridge Park in Garland is a good place to take the kids for bank fishing. We always catch fish there... but it is a catch and release public pond. The kids enjoy it though... and I don't have to clean fish!

juniorsamples: Take you sons to Samuell Farms in Mesquite. The first pond you see at the front of the park on the right side and the one directly behind it are loaded with bass. They don't open until 8:00, so be there so you can get a little time in before it get's really hot. Tiki Wave worms, Spinnerbait or Texas Rig in the front tank. Same thing in the tank behing it, but you can use a Carolina Rig as well. Green Pumpkin and Watermellon are two great colors to use in plastics.

Try the ponds at the Caddo-LBJ National Grass lands that are west of Denton, big bream.

It isn't close but when you get him hooked you might check into taking him to Purtis Creek. Get some crickets for the large fast action sunfish. Not for sure, but if they dropped the length limit on them you can use them for bait. If not don't get caught with an undersized one. If they have, put it on a hook and cast it out with just a bass hook and hold on. If not use goldfish. They work good also. We used to go there just to bank fish. Perch were very fast to bite. Takes a little longer for the bass but the rewards are great. If you decide to go sometime, fish around the picnic area and the cove between the boat ramp parking and the dam. You will need some heavier line because of the moss. That perch or goldfish will swim all through it but will soon find himself as lunch. Good luck with the boy. I think it is great what you are doing for him.
