It's more like a river than a lake to me. The water stays very cool compared to anywhere else in the state I've been becuase of the discharge upstream from Lake Travis. Plenty of docks to fish. Most of the grass is gone now I would guess from the drawdown. I'm thinking fish will be relating to any decent bottom structure you can find and also there are creeks spread out throughout the length of the lake. As stated, wake boarding is an issue and makes the lake almost unfishable during prime time in the warmer weather. Early morning and evening/night during the weekends would be the only times I'd go in the warm weather -- weekdays aren't too bad.
The fish seem to turn on when water is being released from Travis which creates a pretty good current.
Lots of good fish in the lake without a whole lot of fishing preasure.

Its not really comparable to any other lake I've ever fished. It is a river, essentially. There is usually a slight current. Lots of steep rocky banks, lots of docks. There used to be a lot of grass, but most of it is probably dead now, they just drew it down for a month to kill it off.

DO NOT GO WHEN THE WEATHER IS NICE AND A WEEKEND! YOU ARE ASKING FOR DISASTER. Seriously, its crazy out there with wakeboaarders, jet skiers. I would make a first trip out there a weekday or one of the next couple weekends that wont be too warm. Once the warm comes, so do the crowds. Otherwise a great fishing hole. Dock after dock, steep banks. I would also focus on any stucture since the vegetation is supposedly dimished with the draw down. I have fished this river 5 times and never caught a bass less than 2lbs. Always chunky bigmouths

Yeah,it's more river than lake. I've never fished it when there wasn't grass,so I'm guessing that docks would be the ticket right now. I drove over it last week and it's not accessible to a big boat right now,so you'll have to wait for them to refil it. I caught my first 6 out of there.and as I was releasing it,my partner pulled in a 7.

Lake Austin does get a lot of pressure. The lake has filled back up to get your boat on. As many of y'all have seen Jack Waldrop caught some good fish there on Monday. Contrary to beliefs the video was not shot last May. Jack does not like the way the video turned out and has asked Lee to pull the video. Jack also didn't see the finished product until it was out in circulation for everyone to see. There won't be any grass in Austin for a year or so because of the draw down. The docks will hold some fish but look for drop off and rocks as well.

He was the one who called the guy to come out and video the fish "HE" RE-HOOKED so HE could reel'em back in and try to convince the viewing public that they were caught live on camera!!! What "finished product" was there to see, the whole production was a fake and he should ashamed for trying to push this BS trash like he did...No one is taking away from the catch, if he even did it, but the production of the video and the mishandling of 4 giant bass was right up there with one of the dumbest stunts I have seen in years!!!

River Austin..deep, clear, and IMO, a very tough nut to crack.

You're right, I never seen a staged fishing show ever. They are all done legit. All the fish were let go and swam away.
