Ok, from what I have read here on TFF i'm assuming that you do not buy live shad, you cast a net for them. Is this correct?

I believe you are correct. I've never heard of anyone buying live shad.

shads are coming in so thick right now, I can stand in the water and kick them to shore!! No kidding. But yeah, if you want live shad, use a casting net or a minnow sine.

go to academy and buy some frozen shad, doesnt work as good but better than anything else

Shad may be hard to get from the bank right now. The best thing to do would be get up really early and find a lighted boat dock and try there.

i was with a buddy the other day a got them off the shore at ray hubbard it was from a boat ramp, honestly though im not sure which one. all i know is it was a public boat ramp and you had to pay no fee

Are shad hard to keep alive in a tank?? Was thinking that if a person managed to net a few extras when you find them, then keep them alive until the next trip, when they might be more scarce??
