If you won a tournament would you publicly thank those that helped you along the way? I mean there are those that have the knack for finding their own fish. There are those who have to use their complete network to even compete. Then there are some who have confidence in their own ability but still network for self gratification.
So...given that you are the fisherman that needs outside help to compete...would you simply boast on a win and remain quiet or would you give credit where it is due when others congradulate you?
I only bring this up because I utilize my network regardless of my talents and would feel guilty for not at least mentioning the person(s) that helped me along to my victory. Sure I would still have to execute the plan but thats the easy part. Being put on fish day in and day out is a huge advantage. Any thought or opinions?

If my wife was present at weigh in I would thank her, if she wasn't I would tell her I lost and spend the winnings on more fishing equipment!!!!

Networking didn't put the fish in the boat, you did. Nevertheless, there is nothing wrong with a thank you to those who help(ed) you along the way. Don't know that I would make it an announcement at the tourney, perhaps a phone call afterwards. Most of the guys that I network with are usually at the tourney as competitors. While they would have liked to have won it themselves, they are also the first to shake a hand at weigh-in.

If I won a tournament it would mean I kept 17 5 lb fish alive for days in my live well before the thing started. Just kidding. Does that actually happen? I always wondered?

I thank those that help me privately. I don't think they may want to be recognized for fear of people soliciting things from them. I have shared information before and had those share with me. Some worked and some didn't. I always thank them whether it pays off or not. We try to help each other.

Does that change anything? I know some take it serious enough to hire guides or many even have one at their dispense. Is it a strike against your man card to thank the guide in a thread on a public forum?

Does that change anything? I know some take it serious enough to hire guides or many even have one at their dispense. Is it a strike against your man card to thank the guide in a thread on a public forum? Thank whoever you feel deserves it, but I don't really want to know who helped you myself. But in my opinion it is a strike against your man card to seek a guides advice and not use your own skills and abilities. I hear of it happening alot. but there isn't anyway to avoid it other than to not fish tournaments. In my opinion it is like getting all the answers to a test. And that is an advantage. You still might fail the test, but you still had an advantage. If I knew someone was getting advice from a guide right before a tournament I would consider it cheating. It is an unfair advantage for those of us that rely on our own time on the water and skills. I personally like to shake the hand of the man or woman that is able to fairly beat me in a tournament. If I knew the person had outside help, I might not be as friendly....just sayin'
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know when to go fishing.

I have found outside help has always hurt me in fishing tournaments, Just go with your gut instincts and when you win it was your time, chalk it up to the stars and the planets lining up and God shinning down on you that day. That way you only have to thank one other person other than your wife....
