Seriously thinking about putting in at the 78 bridge on Saturday and trying to paddle down to the power line area. Anybody interested/had any experience with this? On the google maps tracking feature it looks like about 3 miles or so.

Bowfin anyone?

If the bass forum dudes are telling the truth rolleyes , might even see one of these... eeks

A friend and I made the paddle last Saturday in his canoe. We made it past the power lines, and bumped elbows with a few powerboats. It was a nice paddle, but we didn't catch anything. I expected to find a lot of crappie holding in the structure along the way, but I guess the bluebird skies had everyone keeping their mouths shut. I'll be going again once it warms up.

Be sure to take a 4wd if it's at all muddy.

I was going to ask where you launch from around the 78 bridge. The 4WD statement answers most of that I guess. One of the real drawbacks of trailering my yak.

Let us know how you do. Sounds like fun. I'll start testing the golf course reeds/cat tails in about 3 weeks and running a few jugs in the shallows while I work my way north.

Shouldn't be long now.

Good luck, Phill

it comes out south of the mouth of the river. not much stuff in camps creek to hold fish. just a long barren channel with overhanging trees.

i took my kayak down river yesterday afternoon. i had a little better luck than last weekend. however, it seemed that the fish were only holding in one spot. i caught fish at it on the way down, and on the way back, but nowhere else... weird! all small, but i caught crappie, sandbass, largemouth, and one yellow. if you are looking for dinner i'd go somwhere else, but it was tons of fun for a warm february afternoon smile

Hey thanks for the reports, Bryan. You may have swayed me. Thing is, I know there are good fish in the river at times, but considering your reports and the fact that I haven't felt a pull in about a month I may go somewhere else. Then again, even if I don't get any fish, I really do need do some recon in there at some point. Decisions, decisions. We'll see what I feel like in the morning. Definitely going somewhere.
