Going to Fork Wed. for two Yak days followed by 2 boat days. I have modified my river yak with finder, rod holders and milk crate. Pelican box for camera and phone. My trip will be from hwy 154 to hwy 515 west bank due to anticipated winds. Next day LFL to Penson or upper Birch. Three rods: Trap, C-rig worm/ lizard, and spinning for weightless flukes. Will have additional baits. I see alot of you guys with gobs of stuff in that milk crate but WHAT? I'm carrying a full set of polypro clothes, towel, sunscreen etc. in dry bag. So what else but my lunch do I need?

I like your rod holder set up. Watch out for rebar in underwater stumps if the lake is up.

If you go to fork in a yak, you need an airhorn handy.
Just advise, I would take the boat days before the yak days. You don't have the option to run to a new spot in a yak.

Hey Folks thanks for your input. I painted the crate fluorescent yellow and added a couple of reflectors for big boat visibility. I was going to just use a "limb clip" that I have for tying up in case the wind gets crazy. There are alot of stumps where I will be. Do most of you use an anchor on your Yaks when lake fishing? A net? I'm trying to avoid that " Aw [censored]" moment!

I almost never use the anchor when I'm bass fishing. I don't nessesarily agree with Citizen about taking the boat days first. While it won't hurt anything to take the boat days first I don't agree that it will nessesarily help anything. Yak fishing is just different than bass boat fishing. I catch bass out of my kayak that we would have passed right by in my FIL's bass boat. But in the bass boat with fish hot and heavy, hitting lots of different spots and covering a ton of water. Where as in the kayak I work smaller areas much slower and really get to know the structure rather than just having a general idea based on what a graph said. So I don't think being in a boat before hand will nessesarily help nor hinder your ability to catch fish from the kayak.

Make sure you have a good pair of needle nose close by. Net isn't needed but if you aren't 100% comfortable having to lip a big fish id bring one. Might want to think about using a wacky worm rig also on Fork.

I use mostly jigs on fork.
I like the football heads rigged with creature baits or wacky worms. Sometimes flukes too...
My typical set up is five rods rigged like this:
One football jig with skirt and creature bait one football jig sans skirt and wacky rigged One inline spinner bait, gold one t rigged lizard one t rigged grub
I will change out the spinner bait for a crank or whatever else I think might work as needed.

Nice rod holder...I might plagiarize the idea...instead of needle noses, a Boga Grip might be a better alternative, albeit more expensive. There are inexpensive fish grippers if you don't want to get too close to the hook with fingers. I was on Fork last April, but the water was just too cold for any action. It needs to be closer to 50 for the fish to be interested...

Sounds like you know what you're doing. Fairly warm temps this week. Lake is way down from what I understand, which could allow you to get to places the PBs can't. If the plans aren't set in stone yet, the later in the week to fish shallow in the yak the better imo. You might also be able to get an idea of what areas will work best for the yak after you've run around in the PB a bit. Agree with MR that a jig n pig should be part of the plan as well. I'd throw a 1/2 ounce chatterbait, some 6 inch senkos, and some brush hogs or maybe some lizards into the mix as well.
Please post up a report when you get back, as I'm planning on heading to Fork in March and would like to know how it's fishing from a yak this year.
