This Minnesotan is going to be in Brownsville March 12-19 and is looking for a "party" boat trip and also for a respected guide for bay fishing. Any ideas?

I'm piggy-backing on your question, Clay.

Clay, what time of year are you planning on going. These next few months are gonna be tough for the offshore fleet due to the typical spring winds.

I can't suggest one guide over another down there since I typically fish Port A.

If you're planning on going between now and June or so then I'd choose a charter with a large boat that can handle the rough seas.

LandPirate i was gonna try to get a private bay trip, and catch some reds and black drum. But also wanted to go out to some rigs and catch some tuna and kingfish. Going to be going around early to mid june.

You'll probably need two different guides then. Bays are shallow and require a shallow draft boat. Definitely not conducive to running deep drafting, deep V hull, offshore boat.

Tuna are generally found in very deep waters, far offshore. Kings are generally in close to shore by that time and can be reached with a bay boat if the conditions allow.

You might want to charter a bay guide for one and offshore guide for the other.

Winds can still really mess up plans for offshore trips in June so just be prepared and have a contingency plan. Winds over 20 knots and seas over 4-5 ft. won't be much fun.

look me up on this board when it gets closer to the time you'll be making your trip........

if the seas're nice and you volunteer to pay some fuel expense you could go offshore with me

i'm a big-game fisherman and we always have a by-catch of tuna, wahoo, and dorado in pursuit of billfish

i ususally do good at avoiding kingfish but i've been known to fish for'em and have on occasion stopped and let guests drop for AJ and snapper even thogh that's not really my bag

sorry i can't really recommend any guides cuz i don't use'em..... i've got my own boat...... but if you come up with some names i'll be happy to pass along what i might've heard about'em

many of'em i know thru the STBGFC (South Texas Big Game Fishing Club)

here's a young guest with a nice dodo from my last trip out.......

avoid the party boat for bay fishing . its cheap and we got just what we paid for. i here the deep sea party boat trip is much better.
i think a well equipt quided 2-3 person trip on the bay would be the way to go.go with a guide that has a shallow runner.

thanx, but i doubt seriously that i'll be down there that early in the year.....

i just have a 2nd home and my sportfisher docked down there and usually don't show up 'til may-r-so...... the snowbirds are gone by then...... i do stay thru october tho when they start showing up again

as-far-as offshore partyboats go, i recommend the murphys..... but they might be running outta pt mansfield when fed snapper is closed
