I have an 898 and like it, but, and it's a big but, I wish I had bought the 1197. The bigger screen is well worth the difference.

It might pay you to shop around as the difference between the 898 and 998 might be less some places.

It ain't easy making it look easy.

Way I looked at is was.... There is only one thing in the world I would spend $500 for an extra inch for, and it ain't no depth finder.

LOL!!!...I bet.....Well, I already got the 1197, great unit...love it, this new one will go on the bow. I wish I had somewhere close to see the 2 side by side, no one in the lufkin area has that.....and I sure wish I could see how some of you guys mounted one on the bow....leaning toward the 998 just for the extra screen size, but better picture may be better.....

hey t-mike, do you think they will ever give the option to scroll between shutting that side bar off on the 998 and 898 for that little extra viewing space?

Here's Chart of Actual Screen Size. Screen is the total viewing area with readouts. Display is the inches with readout omitted for sonar data to be displayed.
