Southpaw here....bat left, reel right on all gear. Baitcast, spin and fly.

Grew up using spinning reels where I cast with my dominant right hand and reeled with my left. When switching to baitcasters it didn't make sense to me to change it up. Having my dominant hand on the rod gives me better control of the rod, action, and overall feel of the bait and bite. Plus pitching or casting with my right hand then swapping the rod to my left to reel right handed seems like wasted effort and time, not to mention if I pitch and get a hit on the way down I want to set the hook immediately with my dominant hand, not be in the middle of swapping hands.

I'm right handed but I prefer a left handed reel because it's easier for me to keep a consistent retrieve and an easier hook set. No wasted energy or awkward left handed casts

I'm a righty that can fish either one, but I prefer left handed reels. Now if Okuma would put out the Serrano in a left hand retrieve, I'd be a happy man.

I'm mostly a lefty. I do a few things right handed though. I am comfortable fishing either hand, but a little more comfortable right handed.

I am right handed, I fish strictly left handed, but i think the reason goes back to being a kid...

Ask yourself "Have you ever seen a left handed Zebco?"

NO, I haven't and don't know of anyone who has, In my opinion that's why most people who are left handed fish right handed, they learned it young and now it feels dumb & awkward to fish with a left handed reel... A select few have been able to make the switch but most guys I know are unable to do it because its just not natural...

Also if you were given a spinning reel as a child instead of a Zebco like I was and it was set up to reel left handed then you are more liked to fish with a left handed bait caster unless you were fortunate to have a Zebco as well...

This is just my theory of course...
