Hello All,

New to forum but not to fishing. Just wish this cold weather would let up already so I can do some fishing. I'm ready for stripers, hybrids, catfish, sand bass, crappie, red fish, and everything else that I can catch from the bank....lol I'm getting stir crazy being cooped up at home with nothing to do but chores.

welcome to the TFF. you will find this to be a very helpful tool for all your fishing adventures! in order to get the most helpful feedback, i would suggest you put your location as the town you live in in your sig, that way folks know what part of the state you are located in! just my .02!

I'm feeling you. I hate this cold weather. I'm ready for some "catching" this year. I missed the spawn last year.

good luck to you all!

Shut up and fish!

hey Pie Money, the weather has not slowed down the fishing! It has been quite good during the cool snap. Wylie crappieman has done well, Catfish salsa did great, Papa Peck killed 'em in ice water! The weather has had minimal effect on the fish, but near max effect on the fishermen! It's good out there, but you can't catch em from the lazy boy in front of the fireplace!

And the fishing from the bank around hot water discharges on power plant lakes has been off the chain!

Also, see YaknYota's post in the photo section, caught from a kayak, but still, cold weather IS NOT A HINDRANCE to catching fish!

Lovfldx,

I know the colder the better, but just don't like being out in this cold of a weather. Having a 1 yr old makes it even harder to go out. If it was just me, I would venture out here and there. Finding babysitters is hard when you don't trust anyone with your 1st born...you know what I mean? I'll get out there sooner or later until then I guess I'll fish vicariously through other people's posts...hahahaha

I'm still green when it comes to fishing in the cold, from the bank. Do you fish deep, shallow, with the wind coming toward you, just warm water discharges, etc, etc? I never have luck in the cold. Frustrating because you hear about how good the fishing is when it's cold. hmm...

Yeah are you catching bait or buying bait or are you purely artificial?

What do you use for bait/lure if you want to catch?

1) catchfish
2) stripers/hybrids
3) crappie
4) sunfish/panfish

Welcome! I've been going to Grapevine some this winter cause its close to the house. Lately, I've been doing pretty good catching bass with crawdad creature baits. Also, decent with worms. You have to move around a lot so sometimes I just figure I'm at the right place at the right time. Also, you can hit the creeks, hickory creek has been ok but the water still needs to clear up a bit.
I bring my 1 1/2 yr old sometimes to the lake but only when its warmed up and when I don't mind not catching anything. He likes the fishing pole doesn't quite get it yet!!! Ha

I'm pretty much a cutbait angler. wink I experiement and use a variety of bait. Cut carp, buffalo, mullet, skipjack herring, sunfish, bluegill, etc. The cutbait actually catches cats, stripers, hybrids, no problem. For Crappie (when I do fish for Crappie) I use artificials (crappie jigs) and minnows. For catching bait fish (sunfish, bluegills), I chum the water with cracker crumbs and use honey flavored ham, in small worm like strips. Works wonders! wink

Thanks RAKK3187,

I can't wait to get my son out there too or when he starts understanding what we're doing....lol I'm a 1st time father if you can't tell. I cant wait to teach him what my dad taught me about fishing and what I learn on my own or from other anglers.
