Sunday put in at aiport fished all normal spots that usually hold fish. Caught one. Went all the way to rapids and past limited. Tuesday before cold front same exact thing. why arent there many fish in the normal areas. Guess water higher than other years. I still dont think half the fish are there yet. Talked to a lot of people they all said zero to four fish caught all fishing the area before the rapids.

How far up from the airport is this set of rapids?

Dude it is at least 6 miles up. One hell of a paddle in a canoe. Really might want to think it over and give the fish about a month before making the trip.

I've seen a canoe up there but he had a trolling motor, which is a good idea.

I also saw two guys headed up that way about halfway paddling kayaks and they looked a bit tired and struggling.

It's a long way and if you are in shape maybe not too bad, but get a little bit of wind and it goes through some areas of that river like a wind tunnel and you might change your mind real quick about attempting that long paddle.

In contrast last year the river was really low and you could go upstream from the launch about four hundred yards or less and reach the rapids which I limited out several times fishing from my kayak.

Just one more cast!

Jimbo I paddled it in a canoe and I have not ever had a harder paddle than that day. Wind was always in my face and caused you to almost go backwards if you stopped.

I'm guessing there are still alot of fish that have yet to move up river. Last year, even though the water was lower, I still caught a ton of whites in deeper slower areas. But the past few reports this year have all been about the rapids way upstream.

Is it possible to put in upstream and float down to this area? I have never put it anywhere but the 59 bridge and airport ramp.

I called the game warden in three rivers. He said it is legal to put in under 281 where river crosses just outside of town. Problem is that is half way roughly. So either way it is tough. I am hoping river drops more and rapids form like last year plus there will be a lot less boats. It did drop since last trip one foot.

You must have talked to carlos, and yeah you can put in there with a canoe or kayak or maybe a 10ft john boat, the banks are way steep bout 20-25ft to river and average depth is 1ft, spots in river where kayak even hits bottom so for a boat not a good place to put in, and to be clear not sure what he told you there is no boat ramp there, i have a river house north of swinney switch, on the hailey ranch and we are still catching whites there, so you should prolly go down river instead of up cause my place is about 8 miles by water south of 59. just a little report of where fish are being caught
