Trane used to be a good brand to have. But now I do not know of a reliable company. My mother is wanting to get a new unit. Any recommendations? Any bad experiences? Thanks in advance.

ComfortMaker is made by ICP as well as other brands like Heil and a few others. Same product just different names for different distribution channels. I have two new Comfortmaker units just can't tell you how good they are till about July.
One of my new units replaced an old Trane that was almost 30 yrs old so I'm not sure you can go wrong either way. I'd say pick a dealer that will do a quality install and back it up properly.

Well this is for my mother. I am looking at one in the future too though. What is a good warranty now a days for such a unit? I forgot to say thanks for the recommendations.

Thanks guys for the recommendations. I really hate that Trane is moving their plant to Mexico, that is bad news. I will tell my mom about all this too. I already gave her the previous info. I will tell her the latest as well. Thank you all very much.

Trane residential equipment is manufactured in Tyler, Texas. It is and has been the most reliable brand since the GE days of air conditioning.
If you purchase Amana, Comfortmaker, RUUD, Goodman or any other off brand you are purchasing old technology equipment that Trane, Carrier or Lennox has sold to them.
I would purchase the highest effiecenty equipment you can afford, look into all energy and tax rebates offered for doing so.
When purchasing A/C equipment ask yourself one question, when was the last time your energy cost have gone down. It makes the decission a no brainer.

A few things she might look into is the installing dealer.Check out BBB and get as much info. on them as she can get.The first day of the life of the system is the most critical. As far as brands go,they are all pretty much the same with a few design changes between them.If she has a gas or propane furnace,an Amana is the only way to go.They are the only manufacturer that produces a stainless steel heat exchanger. This is the part of the furnace that can fail and cause carbon monoxide to enter into your main airstream and into your home. Other than the Amana and Goodman having these features,I think the rest are junk.Notice I didn't say a word about Amana or Goodman's A/C being great, they're just like the rest in my book. Everybody has gone to variable speed drive motors that are AC that is changed into DC through a rectifier on a circuit board,Im just not a big fan of it,too much to go wrong and the only fix is to replace the board. Make sure she gets a 10 yr. warranty,in writing, make sure they are licensed and pull a permit, and by all means make sure they run a heat load calculation on her house. If they say they don't need to....RUN!!!This high efficiency equipment thats out there now is very critical to sizing and to duct sizing as well. I hope she finds a good company to treat her right.

Thank you for your thoughts on this. I will tell her what you said. I did look at BBB before, but not all are listed.

What should a "decent" forced air electric furnace & AC cost? I need to replace the 25 year old unit in our lake condo. Also, should I have someone clean the furnace ducts? I hear mixed comments about those guys. Condo is 1200 sq ft.
