I am joining the fray and going to try and fish Falcon for first time as I am invited to go quail hunting in Webb county and of course am taking my boat. Which ramp would you guys use if you did not plan on driving too much over lake to fish for short period? Thanks.

North part of the lake launch at the public ramp in Zapata, if you are closer to the south end of the lake launch at State Park, if you are closer to the middle launch at Tigers. All are fine.

you can launch at the county ramp and have great water close by. or you can head down to the tigers ramp and fish all day in the tigers. or if you want to drive a bit go to state park and fish the south end. all are great ramps. good luck and have fun!

Depends on the weather. Pick a section of the lake you want to target and you'll know the best ramp to launch. If you're stuck with a strong north wind you might be better off launching at Beacon Lodge and shooting accross to Salado or up the river. Talk to FLT or someone that knows the lake when you get down there.

If I only had a short time to fish on the lake, I'd probably put in at Tigers and stay there. Assuming since its your first time you don't already have a mexican license...so you wouldn't need to buy one to fish there.

Do you really need a mexican fishing license- I have not heard of any recent stories of mexican federales on the water asking for proof of license.... Anyone????

I wouldn't take that job for all the pesos in the world -- a warden boating around in Mexico asking for papers. I don't think there are any Mexican authorities to ask for fishing licenses but they are still required.

As far as I am concerned, if you are going to be on the Mexican side, you absolutely need a Mexican license. 60 Bucks a year is cheap insurance. I sure would not want to be in Mexican waters and get asked for one and not have it. Lets see...... 60 dollars for license vs $50,000 dollar boat and another 15 to 20 thousand in electronics and tackle that you could have taken from you...........Who in their right mind would not have a license.

Just my thoughts tho. Everyone should really do what they think best....

plus 1, and besides that, it's the right thing to do.

Hate to say it but if they want your stuff, having a mexican license isn't going to stop them smile but I agree it is the "right" thing to do but then again I dont' think I would want to wait around for an odd boat to approach me while fishing in Mexico smile

Launch in Tigers and fish there, all the fishing you need to do can be done there!

Heading SE on 83 from Zapata towards the State Park, shortly after you cross the Big Tigres bridge there will be a steel gate over a cattle guard on the right(Gate GPS coordinates N 26 43.878' W 99 6.805'). Be sure to latch the gate after you go through. Stay on the dirt road till it ends at the mobil homes. Be sure to stay straight on the dirt road at the one intersection on the right about half way down the dirt road. Look at the road on Google Earth.

I think there used to be a beat up little camper sitting at the gate entrance.
