Am going to try out one of our area lake for carp this weekend. Usually go to LBJ but will be trying a different one for this trip. Is night fishing just as good as day or do you suggest sweating to death. I also would like to try Lake Austin but the only water access I know of is in Steiner Ranch. Does anyone have any suggestions of some decent bank access there. Want to get my son on some big fish. Thanks.

Can I ask something and not get blasted, what is it about fishing for carp that everybody likes?

I grew up being told that carp are no good fish and here it seems like a lot of people enjoy this fishing, enlighten me!!!!

hey bruiser night day it dosnt matter as far as Lake Austin goes I always fish emma long park cost $8 to get in but its a awsome place to fish with plenty of bank access

iluvfishing they get huge if you are going to catch it and let it go, why not catch the largest thing you can they fight 10x harder then anything else in fresh water, and they are one of the smartest fish that swim they have the largest brain cavity of any other fresh water fish so you have to be crafty to catch the largest of the fish, plus they are pretty much every where 10-15lb are really common 10-15lb bass 1 or 2 in a life time if you are lucky

to me there is just not alot of draw to bass fishing anymore 1-3lb fish just dont get me very excited

One thing it does not take to catch a huge carp is a lot of money.....
You can get a decent spinning rod and reel, some hooks and a can of the Jolly Green Giant's finest and have a ball !

I am normally a bass fisherman. But bass from the banks is not easy, though maybe thats why I like it. I was sceptical when I heard all this carp talk too, but as Starless will tell you I was more excited on my first Carp than I have been in a long time fishing bass. Its not that one is better or worse, just different and a lot of fun. Saturday I had the luck to hook into a few big buffalo and I can't remember a bass experience like that since I was a kid. And this happened 3 times in one day!!

I am an avid bass fisherman and what lures fisherman to bass rather than carp is the challenge... not saying that catching a carp isnt challenging, however catching a bass requires alot more skill IMO. With carp there are about 3-5 baits to use,and in bass fishing there are 3-500 baits. In bass fishing you have to take in water clarity, line diameter, type of line, lure, depth, points, creek channels, flats, if they want the bait on top, bottom, or middle, the list goes on and on. In carp fishing you chum them with some corn and then throw some of some more corn out there with a hook in it and hold on.
This key difference is what attracts bass fisherman, but also drives them away. Some people dont like the varibles and complexity of bass fishing. As treetopjf said, some people are attracted to the simplicity of carp fishing. Im not raggin on carp or carp fisherman, but just detailing the difference of the two. Matter of fact ill be out at Lake Grapevine tomarrow morning fishing for Bass, but will also throw some corn out and have a baited hook out there for any hungry carp. I love the fight of carp but also the complexity of bass fishing. I dont fish for bass 100% for the fight ( about 75% though, lol) but for the challenge of figuring them out. I get a kick out of every .10 - 10 pound bass i catch, just because the fact that I figured out what he wanted and tricked him.

"iluvfishing" too thats how i got started carping at w/r last year , after walking the bank for bass and not getting action in my usuall spots . i was forced to try something different and have really enjoyed the fight these guys give you .so much so that id rather carp and buff fish than bass now .my 2 cents .....w/r/j

I myself am mostly a bass fisherman. When taking the wife and 4 year old along it is much easier to bank fish by sitting and waiting. While bank fishing for bass it is more difficult for me to walk the bank with my son. He is not really at the stage of caring what he catches. He caught a 4lb bass the other day(pics to follow) and was just as excited with the 10" bass he aught on the following couple cast. I do think however he would get a little more excited by a 20, 30 or even 40lb fish regardless of it's reputation. I wont lie I kinda like the fight myself.

Lonestar one more question about Emma Long. Is it possible to fish in the evening there I looked it up and they say it closes at 10pm. Did not know if that info was just out of date.

this is total **** trust me....carp fishing has made me a far better angler then I ever was when I was bass fishing you have not a clue what you speak of have you ever fished with me!?! WTF!! you really have made your self appear quite silly..........

did you know that of all the freshwater fish out there carp have the largest brain cavity thus making them one of the smartest??? they are not predators, predators are easily fooled they will hit anything shiny~?~ I have seen them swallow cigarette butts??!! but I can see where it might be hard for you to fool them

LOL, without getting hostile about it, let's just say any form of fishing can be made as technical or as simple as you would like. True, bass fishing in the USA is certainly promoted and publicized as highly technical. However, carp fishing is surprisingly technical as well, especially if you get into targeting the trophy sized fish of 30, 40 or more pounds. Worldwide their are probably as many magazines devoted to carp as their are bass. Surprising, but true.
