How do you transfer your way points from your graph to your computer? I need to clean them up and change some names on them but dont want to do it all by hand on my graph. Do I just save them on an SD card or can I hook the graph to my computer and import them some how? Its a 798 SI.

Export All Nav Data. It will put the files on your SD card in your graph. Download Humminbird PC from Humminbirds site and manage all of them there. Make your changes and upload back to card. Put the card in the graph and it will automatically update everything.

Ditto

Get yourself an SD card. I bought an 8gb card, but that's overkill, IMO. Pop the SD card in the unit and then go to "Export all NAV data." Pop the SD card into your computer and then you can add the data through the Humminbird software.

You need to "delete all nav data" after you download them to your sd card. When you put the sd back into the unit, all your cleaned up waypoints will be added.

That's incorrect Tracker Tim. When you modify your waypoints theres an option to add, replace, or something else when you upload them to the SD card again. When you put the card in the graph it will do one of those following options for you.

That is in the Humminbird PC software. If he is wanting to modify or get rid of waypoints, he needs to start with a clean unit.

No cat fight here. I just know that if you clean up or consolidate waypoints, then stick the card back into the units that already has all the waypoints on it, you will end up with the same thing as you started with.

I'm with Tim, I ended up with double everything the first time I used the software. I fixed it by wiping the unit and importing the SD card data. Now that it's all been cleaned up I haven't had the problem again going between the PC and the Unit. But the first time for whatever reason it was a mess...

In Humminbird PC there's a window that comes up when you upload your edited file from your graph to the SD Card. It read, "Please choose how to update navigation data on this device:" Your options are ADD or REPLACE. If you choose replace it will do just that when you put the card back into your graph. When it uploads the data it will wipe out what is on the graph. That will save you from having to manually wipe everything out on the graph. If you just want to add some stuff to it like trails or waypoints someone might have given you then you just make a new file in Humminbird PC with just that data. When you upload to the SD card choose the option ADD so that it will just add that stuff to it. You don't have to get a copy of what's already on there to add waypoints or trails.

The 1st time I did this I ended up doubling all of my waypoints and trails. I learned real quick what I did wrong!

BTW, It's a good idea to get a backup of your graph at least once a month in case you have to do a factory reset for whatever reason.

I don't have this graph, but I can assure that if anyone knows how to use the Humminbird graph or the software to manage the data its bwhatley.

this is a great post and helped me big time since I just did this part this weekend. I too had to delete my previous waypoints and then stick the card in the unit and all is well. I do not recall seeing the window that pops up giving me the choice to add but will look for that next time. Thanks

I think the confusion stems from the fact that the unit stores waypoints to its own internal memory. In other words, the waypoints that you manually mark are saved to your SD card AND the unit itself. So, once you pull your SD card from the unit and make changes to your waypoints via Humminbird software, you should should wipe out or "delete" all NAV data from the unit's internal memorial storage. Once you install the SD card and turn on the unit, all of your old (edited, unedited, and new points) will be added automatically.

However, the best way to mess with the unit its to get out of the water and learn the hard way. Sometimes these tips don't make sense until you're in the same position and have to slap your forehead a few times.
