Made several trips to Falcon recently with no problem on either side. The biggest problem you are likely to encounter down there is with the food. Be careful where and what you eat. Not really that bad but most of it is not very good.
On second thought watch out for the BS that gets passed around at the motel and tackle shops, it can get pretty deep at times.lol.
Go fish, have fun and catch some of those big girls.

Been there 4 times in the last six months. Fished Mexico every day, all day. No problems whatsoever. Don't set foot on Mexican soil otherwise, go to Falcon Lake and enjoy some of the finest bass fishing you will ever experience.
Many folks don't realize that what we are witnessing down there right now is the resurgence of a fabulous fishery. We're going to see another "peak" in the next several years I believe, subject to water levels. Fishing lakes that are peaking is a rare experience and one that should be seized upon.
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

Show her the recent episode of Honey Hole Outdoors. Bill and his guide explained everything that has been going on down there. She will feel a lot better after watching !

I was trolling along, minding my own business, catching fish on nearly every cast, when out of nowhere a Mexican gunboat came roaring up on me, 50 caliber aimed right at my head...........then I woke up.
I feel safer on Falcon than in the bad neighborhoods in Houston.

You will not have a problem with the people in Zapata or on the lake. The one true, and mean no BS, problem you may encounter is the lake its self. Be carefull with any NW-SW winds 10 mph or more if you want launch at the State Park. Any type of west wind blows right down the lake and the rollers can get large this time of year down by the dam. On true windy(20-30mph) NW-SW wind days the swells can reach in excess of 6 feet down by the State Park and that is not a fishermans exageration.

Have her watch the Honey Hole All Outdoors on youtube where Jim Behnken who guides out there explains that if he felt at all apprehensive about being on the mexico side he wouldn't go b/c his daughters are way too important for him to take that chance. Also she will understand a lot more after she sees all the fish they catch!

We fished there last month and got run off the Mex. side by a Military Helicopter (gunship). They kept circling and blowing water on us until we left for the US. side of the lake. The other two days on the Mex. side we saw nothing going on.
