I usually use maize (boiled deer corn) and/or range cubes. I'm making a last minute decision to head out there in the morning. It's been kind of rough as of late fishing for carp. Buffs have been hitting well but they are hard to hook.

You going to challenger park? I have the ramp at walter hall park chummed pretty good for the past 3 days if you wanna give it a shot over there. chummed with a can and a half of corn every night and fished. might be worth a shot for an experienced carp fisherman

Read your post too late. Ended up going to Challenger 7 Park for a few hours this morning. Had some buff hits going on but I'm still not good at hooking them so I just sat there watching the bites happen and not knowing what to do...story of my life.
The commons this winter have gone into hiding or something at Challenger 7

The commons this winter have gone into hiding or something at Challenger 7 Whats been working for me on the Buffs, is 3oz inline or safety clipped bolt rigs with a 5" hook link and #6 J-hook. Lock them in and wait for them to go off screaming.

I've been basically using that rig to a T with both fluoro and braid and have been having trouble hooking up on them. I get clicks off the baitrunner (beeps on the alarm) but have a very hard time getting a hookup.

When using elec bite indicators for Buffalo, you should still monitor the bites and set the hook manually imho. For lack of a better explanation, for buffs it seems you need to watch for a pickup, then a drop, then another pick up, then set the hook!

You guys still fishing carp and Buffs at Challenger? I'd like a mentor for me and my son on this kind of fishing, would like to meet up one Saturday. I'm in Friendswood, this is my back yard, and would love to learn to fish the creek.

Sounds like a nice little spot. Maybe we should do a little fish in there and get together. The common looked to be of a nice size.
