I have a 99' Bass Cat Jaguar with a Merc. 250 XB and a CMC lift. I am turning a 25 pitch 4 bladed trophy 74mph (gps) 2 people w/tourn. load. I sold my champion 210/250XS w/a 26 3 blade fury, which performed the best. Having to step down in boat and just buying, I can't help but wonder that there is better wheel for this boat than a trophy. With all the experience out there I am sure y'all can give me some pros, cons, and probably save me a lot of time and money with a prop shop and a box full of props. Thanks in advance for the help!

Bill, call Steve and talk to him about your issue. He will help you solve it and will sell you prop or work yours only if you need it.

Or, you could post your question in the boats and motors section. He reads and post in that section almost every day. Really cannot go wrong with Steve.

Bill,

all props are different. they may be identical in appearance but one will be 2 mph faster than the other. No offense meant here but a Jag is not the fastest hull around. 74 with two guys loaded is very good for that boat. there may not be much speed left to get. a Fury may be slightly faster if you are empty and solo but the Trophy will most likely carry the load better.

Steve is a great prop guy but don't have unrealistic expectations.

As you get older speed will not be the problem. Getting there across our rough water lakes without your back killing you will be the problem.

How are you on your RPM's.

If I was guessing a 26 tempest or a 26 txp will ring out all there is in your merc. If your plate has enough set back 8-10 inches you shoud be able to run these props high enough in the water to turn max R's, may have to give a little on the hole shot over the trophy. I would recommend getting either one B&Bed to get the most out of it.

But i doubt you will seen more than 2 mph's, like mentioned earlier 74 w/team load is great with that boat, gonna be hard to get much better. I just think these are the only two props readily availabe that may improve your speed, You can look at a work Hydromotive 26 pitch also, but then talking $$$$.

My rpm's are at 6050 loaded, and running a CMC lift plate. One of the guys mentioned running a 26 fury, saying it will make 2 to 4mph more over the trophy 4 blade. Again thanks for the input!

BassCat only produces their boats with 6" jackplate and don't recommend any more. Some newer BassCats have a little more setback with the Detwiler but older ones only have 6. Your CMC is a hydraulic plate so you have the ability to adjust it on the go.

You have a rock solid, heavy boat (most likely dual console) and you are getting 74 with two guys and tourney load at max RPM turning a 4 blade prop. I'm no expert other than being a previous Jag owner but it sounds like you are dialed in to me.

A three blade prop in my experience is probably going to hurt your holeshot but it might also drop you a little below your max RPM which might not be a bad thing for engine longevity.

Go to the owners boards at www.basscat.com and you'll probably find the answers you are wanting from some very experienced folks.

On the other hand, I have never understand why someone would want to ride in a boat that could barely break 50. Boring in my mind, but to each his own. Nothing wrong with slow, just doesn't appeal to me.

You should be turning that XB at 6100 rpm`s. What is your distance between the prop shaft and the pad? I have a 250 Pro XB on a 20.1` Cobra 201 DC with a 27p Tempest and it`ll run 78 fully loaded with two people. I also had Steve work my prop which gave me two more MPH.

Here is another thing to consider. If you prop the boat for the current weather/water temps to run maximum speed you will most likely notice a 5 mph loss when summertime arrives.

Heat and humidity zaps performance from any boat. I run a higher pitch prop in the winter than I do in the summer months.

I am no expert but I don't think a 3 blade prop will help you out. They work well on a Champion but not on the BassCat.

Take it to Steve @ Lake Fork and see what he has to say. He can help you out if anyone can.

74 is pretty good numbers with that boat and your load.
