I come from Kansas. I have a Bass Tracker PRO team 165. It's a small boat but I loved it in Kansas. Well, now Im here in San Antonio and have fished some of the local lakes like Boerne and Medina and haven't caught a dang thing!

In Kansas we fish soft plastics, thrown from the boat to the bank and retrieve all year round. Sometimes we mix in a crawdad or something, but mostly 7" worms.

This is not working down here for me. I'm lost. Please tell me how to bass fish down here. I see other fisherman fishing way off the shorelines and catching fish all day. I don't know how to do that or what im looking at on the depth finder to know where to fish.

Any advice on what, how, and where to fish down here? I feel lost. Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem when i moved down here. In about a month your tactics will work but most likely they are deep right now with the cold. Carolina rigs, Texas rigs, shakey heads, and drop shots will work out deep. DD22'S also work(i have had more luck in the summer with the DD22'S). But my favorite bait to fish deep is a black/blue jig that will work for you to. find structure in about 20ft of water and work a jig slow and you will most likely have some success. again fish it ssslllooowwww. Hope this will help and goodluck! If you have anymore questions feel free to pm me becuase i know exactly how you feel right now.

Thank you so much. I will try what you are talking about. I never thought I would ever feel this lost fishing in my life. I guess I just need more time. Thanks so much again.

my advice you is wait till late march, at that time water temps will be warm enough for a shallow bite. Head to lake fork, and have fun.

Next couple of sunny days we have try finding rocky points in the after noon and start fishing shallow and work your out on the point , jig with a craw trailer , a c-rigged fluke or trick worm and work it slow just crawl it on the bottom , may'be that will get you bit , if I was closer I'd take you out and show what little I know which whouldn't take long , they'll be some of the other guys on here closer to you that will , great people on here that are very knowledgable and as good of bass fishermen as you find anywhere , good luck welcome

Living in San Antonio you have reasonable access to 3 of the best lakes in the country -- Choke Canyon, Amistad and Falcon. If you want to keep fishing the tactics you're used too wait about a month when the water at Amistad gets above 60. Beat the banks in just about any cut and you'll catch dinks to 4 lbers all day long.

If you want to get more serious and get the BIG fish bug, you'll have to learn some deeper water techniques. Not to say you can't catch big shallow, you can, but you'll find a lot more consistancy catching fish 6 lbs plus out a bit on off shore structure.

Canyon Lake and Medina can be fun but they do not compare to the big three. If your budget allows for a bigger boat get one. Falcon and Amistad are big lakes that can get pretty nasty at times.

Falcon is incredible for BIG fish and many would argue it's the best big fish lake in the country and its only a 3.5 hour trip south.

I love Choke but being a weekend fisherman it's become a little crowded for me.

Falcon is my pick but your Kansas tactics would need to change to get what Falcon has to offer.

Also about 2 hours or so away a 2 pretty good little lakes, Fayette and Bastrop -- they're good at time and your boat would be fine for those lakes.

I would love to fish Falcon and Choke, but I think you are right about my boat being too small. I have heard that before.

I would love to know how to fish deeper water and you guys have really helped me. I need to learn how to read my deep finder better I guess.

There is plenty of protected water on Falcon for small boats. Put in at the county or redwood and stay in the Veleno it is big and plenty of fish. Right now the fish are from the bank to whatever depth you feel comfortable fishing.

I know some folks that came here to fish from other states and they show up with fishing nothing but 12lb line. I tell them depending on where your fishing you might want 25lb line and they called me crazy. Took them to fork and one person caught a 9lb'er.

Thanks,

Good advice from JPost and Falconer. There are a lot of places to fish on Falcon without running the main lake all the time. Veleno has a lot of good water in it and you can spend a lot of hours before you cover it all. Lot of big fish have come out of Veleno also. You can also launch in Tigers and fish it without running the lake. Also launch at the State Park. Amistad has several launches close to protected water so you don't have to run all over the lake.

Shallow water fishing will definitely be good in a month or so but even then you need to get out a little deeper to get into the big girls.

Colleto Creek is another good lake to fish. It is a power plant lake and before this cold spell fish were up pretty shallow.

Big Jake,

If you are going to go to the big lakes you are going to need to adapt, but is you want to keep fishing medina and boerne I would advise you get accustomed to the Carolina rig and the drop shot. Google them on the Internet and see hoe to fish them, but I usually catch fish on trick woms and flukes on a drop shot and on that c rig put on a lizard in chartruese or watermelon red on those two lakes.

On boerne there is a large hump in the middle right of the big point in the back. That hump usually has grass year round. Fish on top of the hump or on the north side next to the deep drop. The drop goes down to like 30 ft and the fish will hold there. Chunk out the c rig or the drop shot and slowly retrieve them.

I caught some nice 4-6 lb bass off that hump at boerne in the winter. The fish are ther and usually deep in those lakes. Keep at it and tight lines.

The TFF has a Partner Finder section. Maybe you could find someone to fish with that will help you on your local lakes.
