So can someone give me insight on what they use to troll deep over humps for Hybrids?
I have seen some rigs, and want to get into it, just have no clue. Any advice will be well appreciated. Ron

I rarely troll, but when I do , I use this deep redfin Second choice would be a mangum rattletrap with 3/4 oz egg sinker 3 feet up the line to get it deeper. good luck MO

I use the deep shad raps in fire tiger and shad. Also when theyre not real deep the bomber flat A works real well, whites too. Let out about 150' of line and it'll go deep. N

Norman D-22's can be pretty productive at times as well. Pearl Shad color is our go to on them. Although at times fire tiger, and chrome can be good too.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

Bill Noreman's crankbaits, I like the Sexy-Shad color, or blue/orange. Troll at 5mpg. to get that good vibration, works well. Good-Luck. Oh, this is when they are about 25-30, that bait will go over the top of them and you will for sure get a reaction bite.

if you have downriggers, or use divers like jet divers or dipsy divers to get them down a bit, trolling glow in the dark queen cocamoes, sassy shads, or curly tail grubs can be killer on hybrids, especially spring thru fall...right now trolling might not be as productive as they may not want to chase a moving lure.

Bad1 -we use the Storm Thundersticks both the 4" and 5" deep divers. Also like the Bomber Long "A" deep diving model in chrome and blue and also Chartuese in dingy water. The Rapala 22 deep divers trolled right can get to 25ft. Troll with 20lb braid (thin as 6lb test)and go speeds of 3-5mph to see what will make them react. Let the lure out 100' to 125' back of boat will do the trick. If too much line out the reverse affect happens from too much line drag. Have fun experimenting with lures, line size and boat speed.

One more idea. I have experimented with "snap on" weights like the walleye guys use up north. You can use any size weight on the "snap" weight to get it down to where you want to fish - 1oz 1.5oz, 2oz.... What is neat about them you can place the snap weight anywhere on your line in front of your lure . So the snapon weight can be placed 4' infront of the lure or as much as 12' in front. When you reel in the fish you stop and quickly unsnap the weight from the line and reel it in the fish the rest of the way. Great way to get a 4-5" rapala stick type minnow bait into the 15'-25' strike zone. Check out this video and learn about snap weights http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHIj89pFKUM&feature=related

Here's a method I use and it has been extremely effective for me. 1st you need to do is peel off 18" of line and then a seperate 4' of line. Tie a 3 way swivel onto your main line. Tie the 4' of line onto the 3 way swivel and then put a deep diving crankbait onto it, I use bombers. Next tie the 18" of line on the other eye of the 3 way. Tie a 1oz bucktail jig, I use white with a curly grub trailer, on it. I usually take the hooks off the crankbait so it doesn't get hung up. If there is nothing below to get hung up on you can leave them on. 9 out of 10 times they hit the jig. I use rod holders because the rig is pretty heavy once you get to trolling. You can see your rod tip bounce that crankbait on the hump. Once you start to come off that hump the jig gets hammered by the hybrids. Once it warms up if your gonna troll for hybrids I would try this. It's a poor mans downrigger!

Hey SuperDuck,
Do you think Smitty would give up any of his trade secrets?
