I really enjoyed a thread posted by Devil's horse called "how many remember?" about toledo bend and bass fishing East Texas in the early 70's. im 46 and I was fishing with my grandfather and uncle then,..we were fishing lake of the pines and mexico's guerro.
In 1973, I could have never imagined what bass fishing would be like in 2011. Got me to thinking about what bass fisning 40-50 years from now might be like. I came up with a few thoughts on what it could evolve into, feel free to comment or add:

The fisheries:
Lewisville, Texoma, Lavon, Ray Hubbard & Ray Bob are all crystal clear fisheries due to the massive amount of zebra mussells. Shell beds are a great form of cover to fish for a smallmouth bred by TP&W and genetically engineered to withstand Texas summers. East Texas is covered in a super-hydrilla that was developed in an A&M underwater geenhouse and grows to within two feet of the surface year round , but it will only grow ut of a certain sand that has to be poured only where you want the hydrilla to grow. That means it never grows into unwanted areas to become a nuissance. Black bass and forage thrive in it, increasing growth cycles and producing larger "super bass".
There are no more boat ramps.. you pull your trailer out onto a three story "barge" type machine that has individual cells like spaces in a parking garage, unhook the boat..push a button and the cell fills up, the boat is then lowered into your individual cell.Park your truck, Walk back to your boat ..get in, then the whole barge sinks and 20 boats at a time are launched. 1st floor unloads, the barge sinks some more.. 2nd floor ..then 3rd floor. Instead of a boathouse, its a boat condiminium.

The Boat:
Bass Boats all are jet propelled and burn clean and quiet. you can run 3 days on a tank of a clean super fuel. There are no wet cell batteries.. all power for engines and trolling motors comes from a regenerating power source in the boat. It gets kinetic energy from the motion of the boat and solar power. The live wells are tempature, PH and o2 controlled and automatically self adjust to keep the fish in its peek comfort zone. They have a bladder in them, so at the weigh-in ,you just pull the bladder out of the livewell with the fish in it and carry it to the scales. it continues to keep the fish in ICU. the boats have hull bottoms that can be adjusted like trim tabs on motor yachts..... deeper v's can be extended when your out on the main lake..hit a button and it flattens out for shallow water fishing.
No more Fish finders, everything is live digital camera images from the bottom of the boat. you can zoom in or out, it tells you bottom composition, temparature etc.

Tackle:
Reels are made to fit your individual palm signature. You go to buy your reel and they put your hand in a mold. they pour the reel into the mold, and it fits your hand perfectly. They are made from super lightweight and strong metals.

The rods are then made to be perfectly balanced with your reel. They are made from graphite/kevlar strands that are light, yet wont break .. bullet proof..., They wont snap when you drop a lid or tailgate on them!

Line: No more mono, braid, flouro or copoly's... there is one superline that has all chareteristics needed in a fishing line. Just pick your diameter.

Eyewear: no more bulky polarized glasses... you put some eye drops in before you go out and they protect your eyes from UV rays and polarize your vision for up to twelve hours , then it wears off.

Lures... well its still fun to shop and we will still buy more than we'll ever use... that wont change.. 99% of it will be bought on line. Most of it will come with a real life sub-surface internet demonstration of its fish catching abilities, using different techniques.

The Fish: due to the efforts of the the kind folks in Athens and the SAL program.. 10 consecutive world record bass come out of Texas waters. They set the model for genetic engineering of giant bass and become masters of managing fisheries from forage to cover to stocking programs.

Could be fun.. I hope Im around then! cant wait

In 40 years there will be unleaded gasoline powered bass boats, fluorocarbon spooled reels, and microguide rods. Same as today. All of this alternative energy source garbage is ridiculous.

wasnt meant to be a political statement, but the guys in 73 hadnt heard of unleaded gas, solar power, or braided line either.

they thought back in the deep woods of east texas, things wouldnt change much.....

Good stream of thought here Fluke. In 50 years I dont know what kind of boats , tackle, or boat lauches will look like, but to carry on this line of thinking you must take into account of some of the older lakes have silted in and are no longer the fisheries they once were.
By then water will be a premium and these large cities will do alot to protect their water supply. New lakes will be built that will out do anything we have ever seen. We may or may not be able to even get on the water because of the new laws protecting our water supplies.

Since were dreaming anyway here is a scenario that would suck...what if there is no bass fishing in 2050 in the formerly great country known as Texas...because, the people of the former God fearing country turned their back on God and allowed the devil to convince enough of the American people through liberalism and socialism and moral decay that God had no choice but to turn His back on the once great country...first the government collapsed because the world no longer accepted it's monetary system, then the military was over run by foreign forces all over the planet because sexual immorality had been allowed to run rampant and God would no longer protect it, and all the poor citizens could not defend themselves because the socialist-liberals had taken away their guns so all were enslaved, murdered and country was completely destroyed...The End

Sorry didn't mean to get all political and religious on ya...LOL

I can only imagine in 50 years what it will be. Just in the last 15 years I have seen it change so much. I will be 68 years old in 2050, and I will be posting some where "Bass Fishing year 3000" and wont believe how much it has changed. thanks for posting.

I just hope that the good Lord has enough sense to stop anything the devil decide to throw at us and everybody gets to fish and hunt as we are doing today. In 2050 I proably wont even be dust anymore but hope that my grandkids and g-grandkids have the freedom to do as they want and that they are able to fix this old world and make the fishing and hunting better for everyone!!!!! Sorry just my 2 cents worth
