So yesterday I went fishing at Lake Belton, it's local for me, so I spend some time there. Tried a Fly Rod for the first time since 1973 when my old one was stolen and had a ball. I even caught a little bass and a few hand sized Bluegill. Then I decided to see if White Flint Park was open, this used to be one of the best spots that I knew of for bank fishing on the lake as far as I'm concerned.

Well it's open for camping and launching boats, but they won't let you fish there anymore unless you are camping. So I asked about the rental on a camp site and they said $18.00 a night. So I asked the gate attendent if she meant that if I wanted to fish from the bank I had to pay $18 and stay over night. She said that was right. The Corps of Engineers has shut down that site for day fishing, because there is no "fishing dock" and they claim that there is not enough parking. What a crock. true it's a small parking lot but I have never seen it filled to capacity even BEFORE the park was a pay park.

I am drafting a letter to the Corps of Engineers and will forward a copy to whatever congress persons are appropriate (mine and whichever one has that portion of the lake in their district).

Can any of you think of anything else we can do to get this park opened again for day fishing?

I have caught Channel and Blue Cats, White Bass, Crappie, Black Bass, Bluegill and other assorted sunfish, as well as Drum weighing up to six pounds from this location and never went home dissapointed from that park (until yesterday). I'm sure there are some good sized Carp their as well but it looks like I'll not get the chance to find out any time soon!

I can tell you I was really steamed by the whole situation!

Tell everybody to stay away for a while. Or line up a 100 or so cars and have them all ask the same question you did. Maybe they will lose enough money they will change it back.

Hey james5404

Since your at Lake Belton my old stomping ground when I was at "The Hood" why don't you just get a hold of the "BOSS" Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers.. and see if they can help you,, I used to be co-chairman when we started it up in 92, talked to a lot of high brass down there and got a lot things done, even had a BOSS day at the lake with Aero-Smith. I am sure those brass talk to a lot of state and local officials too.

I'll do that, thanks. While I haven't been a soldier for about 20 years, I do remember a few soldiers fishing that park.
