It is over kill for crappie fishing.

Are you talking about a underspin or a spincast reel. A B&M rod requires a underspin or spinning reel not a spincast.

If you like the way it feels go for it. You can also put a baitcast reel on a BnM rod if that is what type reel you like fishing it just won't have a trigger like some rods. As far as over kill goes look how many people on here fish dobyns rods with high dollar reels. Pay as little or as much as you feel you need to. I spend very little on my setups I use an 8' BnM jig pole and a 22$ Mitchell avocet reel and put as many crappie as I can hold in my freezer so to each their own I guess.

I would use a baitcaster but not a spincaster on a B&M. I can palm a small baitcaster so it would work find. My favorite baitcaster for crappies is a old Ryobi Vmax. The size is perfect for crappie fishing. I have a few Shimano Sonora's on my B&M jigging poles. Crappie are not large or strong fighters so a $100 reel is not needed in my opinion.

If you are talking about an underspin , that is the
set-up I used for years. I caught a bunch of crappie
with it.
The current diawas are not as quality a reel
as they were 10 years ago( that is true of a lot of things)

I think you would be happier with a small shimano spinning
reel. It gives you the option of using braid, which I find
very useful in fishing vertically over brushpiles , timber,
bridges etc.

For casting I still use mono on shorter rod.

good luck

That will work. Use what is comfortable to you. What others like might not be best for you.
