HEy are there any Tff's out there who can give me some tips on fishing in high current were water is falling from a damn.

How to fish by damns: you get hung up- you say "damn!", you catch a whopper- you say "damn thats a big fish!", you catch nothing- realize you may have picked the wrong damn spot.

How to fish by dams: You might want to use either a float or use a drop shot rig. You'll need more weight than usual to get it down to the bottom in current.

If you're using something with a spinner blade, you'll want to retrieve it slower than usual. Cast it across and let it swing down as it sinks. Try to keep the line straight between you and the hook/lure/bait as this will help you feel more strikes.

Longer rods also help control the direction of the line so as to control your drift.

Have fun with "damn"s at the dams too!

yeap the on we talked about a long time ago. I found it man thtb water was moving when i went . is it a lot of rocks there? Because the 1 i was at man it was moving. i got a bite right at the back using a bass assassin but nothing else after that. I wanted to try this week. Let me know if you have time

Thats the one water has been pretty swift since I've been going though have thought about going down close to the highway where that pond is the river is right on the other side. Checked it out the other day. Fished the pond got some good hits though seen some huge carp leaping out the water. Have you been doing any evening fishing lately last time out I got skunked

yeap fishing by the nokia building catching some nice black bass 3-5lbs. on a 3/8 white/char spinner caught about 5 in 7 in the last 4days. I went out to denton creek last Sat. caught about six sandies and 2 crappies. Have yu been to the cove lately. i havent been in about 3 weeks.

Regarding bait coming off- I can see this being a problem if you are fishing with dough or dip bait, but there are lots of other baits which will catch catfish and will stay on a hook. Try using livers, gizzards, bacon, sausage, or chicken skin.

fishing a dam is difficult believe me, I fish Millwood dam in Ashdown AR, it is a 13 gate flood dam. I have fished it since I was a kid. Stick close the wall sometimes the shad will follow the current next to the wall and I have seen fish jump out the water trying to eat them. try tight lining with a circle hook and some good live bait. Down there they use shad, minnows and tiger worms(catipillars). Heavy Rooster tails work well and jigs, try to match the bait fish and get lower than the bait fish. Trial and error will work well with patience. I always cast my lure/bait to the soft waters and bring it back to the current and BAM! a strike occurs, I lost a 3lb crappie 2 weeks ago he hit like stripper.

Any local spillways/dams out there local to the DFW area that you can even get close to? Most of them are all fenced in and you can't get close enough to fish?

The ones you can get to are covered up with people from places with funny names. Elbow to Elbow. The minute they crack one of the gates they show up like fire ants. Very difficult to fish most of the time....Best time seems to be between midnight and dawn. So you are not being cast over every 10 seconds. ( I'm referencing Lavon which is close to me).
