From the Texas State Rifle Association: New Bills filed in the House Call your representative to support these Bills. The caption to both HB 25 by Rep. Ryan Guillen (D-Rio Grande City) and HB 77 by Rep. Dan Flynn (R-Van) read the same: Relating to the carrying of certain weapons in watercraft; and effectively they are the same. Both bills allow eligible, law-abiding Texans to have a handgun in their boat, and to go directly to and directly from their boat, and all without a concealed handgun license. Both HB 77 and HB 25 make changes to Penal Code 46.02. You might recall TSRA worked with NRA to modify this section of the Penal Code to allow Texans to have a handgun in their car without a license. This was the fix to the old traveling exemption. Currently eligible Texans may have in their motor vehicle, or a vehicle under their control, what they have in their home, their travel trailer, RV, or the dressing room of their stock trailer. For the purposes of this legislation: "Watercraft" is defined as any boat, motorboat, vessel, or personal watercraft, other than a seaplane on water, used or capable of being used for transportation on water. Bill passage would allow an eligible, unlicensed adult to possess a loaded handgun on their boat, but the protection is not as clear or as broad as with a concealed handgun license. The passage of HB 25 by Guillen or HB 77 by Flynn will be another major step in the right direction for personal safety. This time on the large, remote lakes and rivers of Texas. So will the Legislature add your boat to the list? Go to www.legis.state.tx.us for Texas Legislature On Line and type in HB 25 or HB 77. Click on the "legislation" to read the bill, click on the House for contact information for House members. Thank Rep. Guillen and Rep. Flynn for filing legislation aimed at protecting Texas sportsman on the water. Remember to join, renew, or upgrade your TSRA membership at www.tsra.com or call the hotline at 800-462-8772. We're the NRA state affiliate with 40,000 Texas members.

To be made legal, it's not a bad thing actually. I'm tired of going outlaw.
Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

I don't think the current CHL ( or being allowed to carry in your car ) put more armed drunks on the street or being allowed to carry in your boat will put a bunch of armed drunks on the lake.

I have my chl and know that if things went down in a bad way that having it will do nothing but help. If you want to carry why not just use the legal paths available to be able to do so? Game warden checked me on Hubbard the other day.. my gun was no issue as I have my chl. All he said was thanks for presenting the license and to have a good day.

In Texas if you an Illegal Alien and carrying a gun, all they do is deport you and you sneak across the border to USA with a clean record.
If you happen to be a USA citizen and get caught with a gun, then you will have a felony or misdeamanor follow you the rest of your life

Will this law over ride the COE rules about carrying on Corps lakes?
Waiting on Bob Davis' next selfie

I don't think so but I think a petition or form letter campaign should be formed about that issue.

That's all we need - a bunch of armed drunks on the lake. So let's completely ban beer and booze from the lake. Problem solved.

That's all we need - a bunch of armed drunks on the lake. What makes you think everyone on the lake is drunk?

That's all we need - a bunch of armed drunks on the lake. What makes you think everyone on the lake is drunk? If your fishing Lewisville, or Grapevine in the summer it's a good assumption!!! It's already legal to have a gun in your boat (2007 castle law changes) this just prevents some do-gooder from making an issue when you take it from your truck to your boat. Frankly, I can't see why they are wasting the paper. If I were on a ramp and saw someone take their gun and put it in the storage of their boat, I wouldn't think a thing of it. But then, I'm a CHL that carries everywhere but the shower.
