Well don't think it matters too much in this weather, not sure the bass can get through the ice to get to it

For real though... I have thrown them on both spinning and bait caster. The smaller model use spinning, larger model use bait caster. For the line type, try using mono or braid, because fluorocarbon line will sink and you wont get the good spitting action from the bait.

I use 20 pound powersilk on a baitcaster. Spinning only when I have to. I work them quickly and the spinning rod reeling motion feels a little awkward for the quick start and stop.

I use a baitcaster and mono, but the size of mono is dictated by the cover and the size class of fish the water has to offer. I use anywhere from 12lb to 20lb.

My preference is a 7ft MH rod paired up with my Pro Qualifier baitcaster. Spool it up with Suffix Siege 14lb monofilament and let her rip. I get long casts and the stretch on the mono helps me get the hookset. I love Suffix siege. I have been known to pull up small trees with that stuff. Tie a palomar knot and you will not go wrong.

I go a little lighter; 14lb mono. baitcaster with a med. crankin stick. but I use the little guy (1/4oz I think).
