What is your technique for skippin' docks? - I've seen several
I have had a chance to ride with some of the pros and watch their skippin styles during the PAA tournaments on Conroe for the last two years Stacy King skips his bait sidearm - David Walker flips his bait the same way he would flip to a stump only he pulls up and back on the rod tip as the bait goes under the dock letting it almost fly across the bottom of the dock before going into the water - I have a technique that I developed myself where I keep my bait pretty tight to the end of the rod and keeping the rod tip low I make a short pitch and as the bait goes under the dock I pull back on the rod just enough to keep it from back lashing when the bait hits the water - it works pretty good - what works for you?

Use a baitcaster, 7 foot rod, back off your castcontrol so you do have to throw the bait as hard and you have more control. I use side arm, roll cast, back hand, pitching and flipping or what is needed to get a bait to the desired location. Most people have their cast control way to tight and throw the bait way to hard to be accurate or subtle. When you throw to hard even with the cast control tight if you hit something it will still backlash. If you go out and practice try backing off the the cast control and using a fluid motion with a follow thru where you lift the rod to keep the bait from digging in the water and use your thumb to control the speed of the bait by doing this you can stop the bait if you see it is off course.

I just use my standard pitching motion; just a lot faster and a lot closer to the water. The trick is you can't have any brakes on the reel at all. That includes most of the centrifugal brakes, I only have two activated on my RevoSX's.

I prefer a 1/4 oz or a 5/16 oz finesse jig with a yamamato flappin hog

In Texas? The lakes are so low you stand up on the motor and still get underneath the docks..

On Conroe the water level stays pretty constant - It can be tough gettin up under those docks...........

KJ I was with David Walker the 2nd day and was impressed with his skipping abilities. I watched him drag a 4# from WAY underneath a dock brushpile. I also got to see him catch a 7+ on a jig. He was a machine that day.

I really like a 6'6 rod with a spincast...I can really fling it without worrying about the line. I usually use only 8lb line though too.

Yeah - BassAm I was impressed with David Walker's skippin - the dude has some skills - I rode with him the first day in 09 and it was rough - he could fit it in a pretty tight gap with out touching the sides too - very accurate. Did you know he's fishin' with the Elite's this year?

I like a 6' med/fast rod-high speed reel, spooled with 15 lb invisx florocarbon. I use a standard flipping motion like you would for fishing trees.
