Just installed both HDS-7 & LSS-1. On test run, Side scan showed Vertical bars out to 18 ft. from centerline on both right and left views. On Downscan the bars are horizontal down to 15-18 ft. Mounted the LSS-1 transducer inside/bottom of starboard side of the jackplate. Also have an HDS-5 on the bow connected to the LSS-1 it shows same image. HELP!

need post some pictures on where you mounted your lss-1 transducer and you may want to take couple screen shoots with your phone or from the unit and post them on here. where can see what you actually seeing.

Make sure it is slightly below the jackplate, sounds like the signal is hitting something, make sure you have a clear view around the transducer, nothing blocking the signal

You need to angle your lss-1 transducer up little, but if do that your JP might give you some interference too.

The transducer is currently tilted up as far as it will go. I plan to move it to the jackplate panel that is bolted to the boat. There is more room to lower and tilt it there. Also: Is there any concern with power drain om the main battery with the LSS-1/HDS7/HDS5 all running while fishing?

Also: Is there any concern with power drain om the main battery with the LSS-1/HDS7/HDS5 all running while fishing? I have the same two HDS units and the LSS-1, they aren't pulling enough amps to run your battery down, besides it'll charge back up when you fire the big motor and run somewhere else.

You do have to be careful in how you connect the LSS-1 to power. There are lots of posts out there about how they can drain a battery. I just about learned the hard way... I just put in an HDS-10 at the console, LSS-1 and HDS-5 on the bow. Had both the HDS-10 and LSS wired direct to the crank and yellow-wired to each other to wake it up and HDS-5 wired thru the power switch... HDS-10 draws no power til you power it up, LSS has no on-off switch, so it draws power (not necessarily a full power up). So if you charge your batteries the day before and end up on a lake where you don't get to run the big motor that much... you're already starting in hole from a charge perspective... found this out at 2:45PM when I went to crank and run in for weight-in.. ended up having to jumper...
So I rewired and put the LSS on the power switch with the HDS-5 and yellow wired the HDS-10 and LSS-1 for the wake-up call...
BTW, the crank was a brand new Optimax so I'm certain it wasn't a battery issue...
Hope this helps..

If you have a 250 or greater, you should have a battery with 1000CCA to be safe.

Those bars you are seeing on your ss and ds is inteference. The best way i can describe it is the signal is "bouncing" around inside of the jackplate. I had this problem when i mounted mine the same way as yours. I ended up taking it off the jackplate and mouting it to the transom and lower. All the lines went away. I have seen others with the same problem and ended up going with a hole shot plate to cover the bottom of the jp. They had also mounted the ducer to the hole shot plate with a wedge to get the right angle.

It is interference from the jackplate. You need to move it down some or as mentioned, put a plate across the bottom of the jackplate.
