So much for catch and release not harming the fishes.

in humans, untreated puncture wounds in the jaws or mouth, can cause infections that directly attack the brain if in upper jaw, and the heart if in lower jaw. massive infections also poison the entire cardiovascular sytem and all the animals organs. this probably works the same way in fishes.

That is why fish that are going to be released
or taken to an aquarium, should be treated with
antibiotic compounds during the quarantine period
or prior to release. Tissue around hook wounds
can easily become infected and spread to the bone.
