So I'm having issues with my router. Can anybody tell me which of these to block, and which ones to keep within my router's fireall?

Outbound
HTTP
HTTPS
FTP
Telnet
SMTP
DNS
NetBIOS
POP3
IMAP
NNTP
IRC
H323
All Other Protocols

I already blocked the IRC and things are working better. I think that did the trick for now. I want it skinned to the bone though, and only want to allow access to absolutely necessary stuff.

Thanks y'all.

Inbound? What type of gear are you hosting behind the router/firewall that you want the world to access?

Why not just go with the default settings and be done with it?

Unless you specifically open a port for those protocols, they are going to be denied anyway on the inbound side.

Blocking them outgoing, is pointless.

Nothing. This thing is set up for surfing.

What's happening is (from what I'm learning) a DoS attack. When I get on TFF and start posting, allofasudden the connection stops. It ONLY happens when I get on here and start posting. I can view all day long if I want, but when I log in and start posting I get booted (I know that term from getting booted in yahoo chat back in the day).

It's stopped for now. There's a pattern to it. It's not random.

I'd block everything inbound...

You may also want to run a few spyware/malware scans. 3 tools that will *almost* always find anything are as follows (and free):

-Spybot Search & Destroy
-MalwareBytes
-AdAware

Run them each individually and if you're on Windows Vista or 7, you'll need to run them *as* administrator, so instead of double-clicking their icons after installing them, right click on the icon and "run as administrator".

Hope this helps a little...

I'm tending to think the problem is with the computer, not the router.

As Chief said above, run those scans.

I'd also recommend going to Kaspersky's website and downloading their free virus scan tool. It picks up on some things that Malwarebytes misses. Malwarebytes misses some root kits for instance.

Are you on Uverse? There's no reason to have any of that active if it's inbound, but I'm confused by the first thing in that list being "Outbound". Everything under "Outbound" is something you would use if you're running servers on your side of the router.

Okay. I cut off everything except HTTP, HTTPS, and DNS.

I updated firefox.

Still losing the connection. bang

Next step - get newest firefox on a disk and format c:, then custom reinstall with MINIMUM.

Next step after that - unix.
