Hi, I just moved to Texas for several months and was curious if there are any places around DFW to throw a cast net and catch some bait?
I read on TPWD that you can't use a cast net in community waters, which is the only place I have caught shiners on a rod.
Any help is appreciated!

Even the Trinity River.They just don't want us using a cast net in the local parks with fishing ponds.
Take all the bait and the fish can't grow.

Went down to the trinity and was able to catch a whole bunch of shad! Well after a few throwing lessons from a couple other nice fishermen. Cast nets are illegal where I'm from, so this was quite the learning experience.

if your close to east dallas /whiterock creek is choked with threadfin shad right now .1 cast =1 - five gallon bucket . mapquest goforth and lawther road w/r/j

I understand take all the bait and the fish wont grow.........but how many striper guides take baitfish by the thousands????

wkendfisherman, in a big lake I suspect striper guides increase the shad population, because they specialize in reducing the population of what is eating the shad.

There's alot more bait in a larger lake than in a community lake in a park.Most of the guides will catch as they need in some cases.Other catch and freeze the bait for later use.
Also in a large lake there are more forage fish that bass and other fish will also eat.
