Wish I still lived on Bob Sandlin, you can't beat those East Texas lakes. Those are some heavy duty crappie you caught there. Well done sir. Thanks for posting the photo.

Isn't that a little over the limit? Louisana limits are generous , last time I checked crappie was 50 with no size limit. MO

Very nice catch!
Toledo Bend has always been 50 per person and from Dec through the end of Feb no throw back are allowed. It is a cross between Texas and Louisiana agreement on Numbers since the river is the border and it's in the middle of the lake and the Chicken Coop fishing deep that made it so you are not allowed to trow any back.

50 is why our crappie fishing stinks.

Fished the Chicken Coop Several years ago and the boats were stacked on top of each other. Shreveport paper took a picture from the top of the bluff and estimated 1500 boats. Everyone was catching crappie. They were so deep that some of the crappie's eyes would pop out. Most of them were over 10 inches too!!

50 is why our crappie fishing stinks. Our crappie fishing here is still good, but I don't think what it was back in the 1970's. I never keep my limit and usually only go out for a couple hours. I don't even want to clean 50, LOL! Once I get close to 20 or so it's time to go home if I am by my self. Sometimes I don't keep any and just have a little fun. Skip

It seems like I was thinking about trying Toledo Bend until I read about the consumption alert pertaining to mercury on the parks and wildlife website. How big of a problem is it? Panfish Paladin

Let me be more specific. The 50 limit in Louisiana is what stinks. You can go to any public lake here and catch a few, mostly small and there is no size limit. A ten incher is something to get excited about. TB is probably an exception in some areas but I fish a dock on the lower end on the La. side and the fish run about 8-10 inches.

This thread reminds me of the first time I read an article in the old newspaper style monthly magazine called the Texas Fisherman.
An article was in the magazine of an older gentleman who had a very nice stringer of fish laying on a dock at one of the marinas. In the gents hand was a Fenwick 8 ft flyrod and an automatic fly reel was attached to the reel seat. The reel was loaded with monofilament (8 lb.) and a 1/8th ounce jig tied to his line. The article was about fishing Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn if I recall it correctly.
The photos and articles could easily lead a kid (or adult) to daydream.
Jeff
