I am a teacher in Kansas and almost every spring break my wife and I go to Fork, my question is how does Falcon fish in March? Spring break this year is the 12th-19th. Also, if we go to Falcon where should we stay? Something nice enough for my wife! Ha.. Thanks in advance!

Falcon fishes awesome in March. Check the tournament schedules for when you might come. There are a number of decent hotels but nothing fancy.
I think you'll love it. However, there is virtually nothing to do in Zapata for your wife if she is a shopper. Zapata is a fisherman's dream but doesn't have much else in the way of vacationing.

It should be post spawn, but you can still catch some nice fish. Always a chance for a double digit. Zapata has some nice motels. You won't regret it. Where in Kansas are you? I fish up there every year, as my wife has relatives there. Check out: http://www.falconlaketackle.comor call them and ask about lodging/fishing.

Falcon fishing in March is very good, the major spawn is over and the the fish are normally getting fat after the spawn. The best thing to do is go on The Falcon Lake Tackle Website or call James and he can let you know if there are any tournaments in that time period and I am sure he will point you in the right direction to catch fish, HE ALWAYS GIVES AWAY ALL MY HOLES (love ya James)

I also will be there during that time, 16th-20th, and was there about the same time last year and fished with Tommy Law, FalconLakeGuide.com, who just caught the new lake record. Would recommend atleast a half day with him if you never been to the lake. He will even get your wife on fish if she is not big into fishing. Last March we had a couple of patterns and don't see why they wouldn't produce this year with the lake in about the exact same condition. One pattern was way in the back of major creeks in the thick stuff early, see the Scott Martin Challenge from this past week. The other pattern was flukes, worms, and DD22 cranks on main lake points. Had several over 8's at both patterns.

Oh Yeah. I stay at Oso Blanco but you may try the Holiday Inn Express and Sunbridge Inn as they are only 3 years old but are less boat parking fiendly.

Oso is the most boat friendly place in Zapata. It is nice pulling out at their ramp and being right at your room with out having to drive anywhere. The rooms are big and clean -- nothing fancy but livable. Bring your own pillow though, the pillows there are like sleeping on a bag of sand.
