I installed my new LSS-1, connected it to the HDS-7 on the console and linked it via ethernet cable to the HDS-5 up front. Everything thing seems to work fine (it is cool!), I saved a couple waypoints at the console and it saved to the front unit as well. The only problem I have is that now my surface temp reading up front doesn't show up, only has dash lines where the readout usually is....Anyone have any idea whats up with it?

go into your sonar settings and the look for installation at the bottom and press ent. then scroll to transducer and press ent. then match your transducer. you should a silver tab next to your blue knob of your transducer cord. then see if comes back up.

if not try going back to your overlay

http://primus.lowrance.com/icr/FAQS/How to Add Overlay Data on Non HDS Unit.pdf

if does work try this;

Sharing Transducers temps.

HDS settings when using Network Sonar

Network sonar enables Multiple HDS units to share a single sonar source, or to change all units in the network from source to source. There are a few settings that need to be changed so that network sonar does not change where the unit is looking for its sonar overlay data (depth/temperature). With network sonar enabled you are only able to display one set of sonar data at a time, if you wish to show the depths and temperatures from different transducers network sonar must be turned off. *Running two transducers at the same time can cause cross talk interference.
There are two ways to network HDS units and use Network Sonar:
Ethernet only: Allows sonar data to be shared only while network sonar is enabled. When network sonar is enabled on both units you will only be able to use one sonar source (data from one transducer) at a time.
Ethernet and NMEA2000: Allows sonar data to be shared via network sonar. Also allows sonar overlay data to be shared via NMEA2000 network when network sonar is disabled. (Can show temp from one unit on another)
To enable/disable Network Sonar:
Menu>Menu>Sonar>Network sonar. (This dot must be highlighted in both units before network sonar will function. To disable it only has to be turned off on one of the two units.)

Setting the Temp and Depth source:
Setting the temp and depth source will allow the unit to display the active sonar data while network sonar is enabled and to display its own data when network sonar is disabled.
Menu>Menu>Network>Data sources>Sonar>Water temperature>Menu>Scope>Local
Then set the active source as HDS-# Sonar [This Device]
This must be performed on at least one of the two HDS in a network; it can be done to both.
Follow the same procedure for Depth.

Data Source Selection menu when networked with Ethernet and NMEA2000.

Data Source Selection menu when networked with only Ethernet.

That should be a great set-up, Lonestar.

Jason - When you stated " Ethernet only: Allows sonar data to be shared only while network sonar is enabled. When network sonar is enabled on both units you will only be able to use one sonar source (data from one transducer) at a time.", are you telling me that since my HDS-5 up front is now linked to the 7 and the LSS-1 that it is using the 2D transducer on the transom instead of on the 2D transducer on the TM?

I'll go out and see if the transducer installation setting changed.

Yeah I'm liking it Meadowlark, I can't wait to get down to the south end of Livingston and look at some stuff that I've only seen in 2D. I know you've already checked things out on your system....were you surprized at some of the "new scans" you see with 3D?

I just went through that and you can have it look at its own or have both look at the same one. I wanted mine looking at their own and disabled network. I am getting some interference on 2d sonar but not bad.

Its really cool...but I'm still climbing the learning curve. The downscan is just "to die for", and the side scan initially does not seem as useful to my kind of fishing(deep open water stripers) as downscan, but interesting nonetheless.

There is a rumored Lowrance software release coming around mid-February and will go up to 4.5 or 4.6 so I would guess it may improve the user interface some.

But if I "disable the network" will I lose the ability to save a waypoint on one unit and have it save to the other unit automatically?

I was out yesterday. That is when I disabled mine and wpts saved just fine no matter which unit I used to mark them.

Thanks Jason and Dayne. I have the temp working on the 5 now, at least in the garage, and it looks like structure scan is working up there too. Thanks again guys.

If you disable net work, that just means..No sonar sharing and temp share thru the ether net.

If you don't want or do want share wpts make sure its check mark under nema 2000 share wpts.

Thanks Jason. The only thing I want from the front unit is to:
1. Use the transducer on the TM for sonar and temp readings.
2. Share waypoints with the console unit.
3. Split screen and be able to view downscan / sidescan from the LSS-1 transducer.

To accomplish this I need to;
1. Disable the network.
2. Be sure that NEMA 200 share wpts is checked.
3. Have the ethernet cable connected.

Correct?

Thanks again,
