I got my wife a tanning bed recently and need to put a 220 outlet for it. There is enough room in the breaker box for a 220 beaker to be put in. But was wondering if this is something a know nothing rookie like myself should be attempting. I've seen a couple of videos online and it looks simple enough, but was wondering if I should just hire someone with some experience for this job.

Most cities in the "DFW" area require a licensed electrician & a permit for new electrical runs.
Check with your city's Code Enforcement division.
Hope this helps......

Check top see how much current your panel is rated for....then add the amount the bed will draw.
I've been known to turn everything in the house on all at once, then clamp an ammeter around each incoming leg to make sure we werent overloading the box.
Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

tanning bed? I'd be more worried about the wife than the fuse box.

Best thing to do is go with experience! Especially with electricity.

If you have a 220v electric clothes dryer, I would just slave off that circuit. Just don't use the dryer and tanning bed at the same time.

Check the Main box to see if you have enough blank spaces to put one in. (2 needed)
I have a 200 AMP panel on only 1 slot left after putting in boat dock, pool and outdoor kitchen.

If you've not ever played inside a breager box before, BE CAREFUL! Pay attention to what you're touching. the only thing thats going to save you is the main breaker, which probably won't trip just because youre holding it. 1/10 of an amp can kill ya(not likely, but it can) and you probably have a 100 amp box. Just sayin

[quote=Woolybugger]or just use the tanning bed to dry your clothes too! [/quote Put the wet clothes on, then get in Taning Bed alone or wife can put on wet clothes and get in tan bed and dry and Tanned all at one time, NOW that is "going Green"

first take the sum of all the breakers in your box and see if you can handle the load, do you have an all electric house? range, oven, dryer, water heater all will be rated at 30-50 amps, 120 house circuits should all be 15 amps, add them all together and compare to what the box is rated for (do not count the main). if the box will handle it CALL AN ELECTRICIAN this is not a job for a "rookie" to attempt, ie. how long is the run determines what guage wire you need, do you know how to snake wire through walls and to the plug? do you know what leg is the neutral and which are the hots (yes plural there are two of em) and where are you going to pull the power from in the box? as stated the city will require a permit and that takes a licensed electrician plan on a couple of hundred dollars for labor and materials if its not too complicated a run.

never never "slave" off of a 220v circuit as they are required to be dedicated circuits and can have nothing else on them due to amperage rating of the breaker.

if u can afford a tanning bed you should be able to afford to hire somebody that knows what they are doing.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !
