If anybody questions the durability of a PowerPole, please watch this video. Anyone who owns one has probably left it down at one time or another. Try that with a Talon.

PS Love me some Legend

Talons have an alarm that sounds when the ignition is turned on while they're deployed hopefully preventing this from happening.
not sure my Talons would take that kind of abuse but would rather not find out. what the video doesn't show you is the bushings after that kind of abuse. been there done that

As far as a power pole being hydraulic and the Talon being electric, wonder why your tilt and trim are hydraulic on your outboard ? Just curious.

I have seen Powerpoles come back in tied up with rope. So I assume that they can be manually lifted and then tied up. Is there some way to manually pull up the Talon Spike if it fails in the down position? Is there a manual crank handle or something?

Talons have a crank towards the top to manually raise them. have to have a wrench or socket set up

There is a manual return nut on the Talon towards the top. Just need to carry a wrench.

I think there is a release valve on the power pole.

I just use an anchor and a rope. Never fails, last a lifetime and cost is minimal.

That way you do not have to worry which one is better or how you will deploy or engage the unit when it breaks.

That video is not showing the whole story. If you notice at the 3.44 mark in the video he is still holding down the button on the talon remote. If you do that the talon does not deploy all the way. To deploy the Talon you hit the down button twice within one second and do nothing else. By hitting the down button again or holding it down once the spike is already started deploying you stop the spike from going further. The shaking of the unit was caused by the spike dragging across the bottom. If he had not hit the down button again after the initial two times the spike would have sunk further into the bottom. The saking of the talon also comes from it being on a bracket where the power pole is mounted to the transom. Looks like a bias video to me.
