Anyone ever build one. I want to build one but could use some advise, do's and don'ts. Something like this but smaller and not quite as fancy.

Personally, if it's going to be outside, I would do a fire pit instead.

Some people like the fireplace because it doesnt smoke you out and sometimes it just fits an area better. Either way they sure are fun to have and hang out around.

Look around for a metal fireplace pre fab type maybe at those store that sell donated building things, as big as U can get. You can frame around it and use cement board to cover then use those fake rocks for cover
Smile while you still have teeth.

Here are three things to remember when putting in an outdoor fireplace. They are a great addition to any outdoor living space. You can add a patio cover later and make it like a room. 1. Build a 3' deep footer under the whole fireplace with plenty of rebar. 2. Get a good quality kit and pick the stone you want to go on it. Rumsford is a good brand. 3. Make sure the chimney is high enough to draw the smoke out of the backyard. Look at some of Craig Kooda projects for some great ideas. www.koodaexteriors.com

Here's where I'm thinking about doing it, either on the side closest to where I was standing or the side facing the yard. I just want to make sure the smoke goes out higher than the roof and the heat stays under.
