Does anyone fish Ray Roberts, and if so is it a good lake or not? I fished it about 5 yrs ago and not much in the way of bites but the lake looked great. Just curious about what yall think or have experianced.

I think its a great lake at times. Hard to figure it out but once you do you'll catch some chunks.

Definitely can have some tough days, most bittersweet on Ray Bob was fishing for 10 hrs with out a bite and the last 20 minutes I caught 14 lbs in 3 fish. Yeah, it's got chunks but I think the VOLUME of carp really prevent a lot of the 1-3 lb fish from developing in good quantity.

It always looks like it should be a great lake. It does have good fish in it but is hard to figure out sometimes. I think those fish have a differnt attitude. It just takes time to figure it out. The winter is really tough.

I grew up on this lake. Its different every year always a great lake if you know where to go mainly same spots every year... for bass the rail road tracks by tioga are a great spot of deep water right off wolf island on a tank dam. crappie there are brush piles all along the point that points to the dam straight across from the dam and in under lone oak rds long brige by johnson park are some really good hot spots during the summer.... winter fishing is really slow at roberts in my opinion...but with that said i dont winter fish hardly at all.

I can't ever catch more than 2 a day but they're big fish. I can't get numbers for the life of me!

I have always been able to manage good days on Raybob. I'm not really sure how it happens but I always seem to catch em good. Granted it isn't as good as it used to be it is still a decent lake.

A couple of guys have hit it on the head. It is now a "structure lake." Just going down the banks doesn't work any more. You've got to find "productive spots" and then run them like a milk route.
We always have two or three real warm days in late January and February--and on the third day of a warm spell, you stand a chance of catching some good fish.
I don't post much any more due to the negative comments--but in fishing the lake since opening--late January and February are the two best months for big fish up there. Last February, I caught two back-to-back nines on a black buzz bait in two feet of water.
It's such a big lake but you can narrow it down by finding those special spots.Just ask Rudy and Danny. They've got their "milk routes" depending on the season.
Be worth it to hire either one of these guys just to locate these "spots." They have different fishing styles and therefore different "spots"--so if you want to really improve your fishing up there--hire 'em both.
This is a great lake--you just have to learn your own milk route.
(I'm not trying to sound pompous--just trying to tell you all this really is a good lake)

I can remember back in the early 90's just how great it was, one day in april in 94. Two friends and I caught between 15 and 20 over the slot that day, 10" lizards on carolina rig it was increadible a thunder storm was blowing in and the fish were jerking the rods out of our hands. There was one bank they kept moving up to spawn on all day. I sure would like another day like that one.

Sandbass + Lack of Grass = lack of number days for good bass. Roberts will always have toads in it. It is very rare to find tons of fish stacked up on a bank anymore. Plus there is alot more pressure on it and numerous pleasure boaters washing them and me off the banks mainlake. The Lewisville party crowd is migrating North. All this makes it different than you remember, I know it does for me. In 20 years this lake will be drawn down so bad in the summer with drought and more demand of consumers the thing may be a wasteland. To find good fishing on Roberts you gotta go where no body else rolls.
