Have we had a lack of rain the entire year? The last heavy rain we had in Sept the lake came up about 10 inches. It was back down 10 in a week! Something is different. I have only seen the lake this low for this long once before about 6 years ago during a drought.

Anytime you build a lake on a river with a dam, you must release some water to maintain the river flow. The rate is calculated from historical river flow data, and all lakes have the same requirements.

Since TWOK has a spillway and no gates,if I remember correctly, how do they release water?

Have to maintain healthy river flow rates.

As soon as runoff ceases, the lake level starts falling. It's always been that way.

The lake got much lower than this about 11 or 12 years ago. There was no was at all between the power line and the entrance to the river. The weeds were 5 or 6' tall before the water started coming up.

Go below the dam and you will see that there are outlets at Tawakoni for water to run through in order to keep the flow. It's not much, but the Sabine probably didn't have much flow most of the time there anyway. That's why the level is so volatile on Tawakoni.

Was that a gator under the bridge? I thought is was one of your old tennis shoes?

Exactly as I thought then. A new law was passed and has recently been put in effect on the Trinity basin. There used to be alot less water in the Trinity below Hubbard, thus Hubbard was kept full. I guess it won't be kept full any more.

The lake level has always fluctuated, but now the city of Dallas uses much more water, and that is the primary source. It's the same reason that Fork's level rises and falls so much. Dallas takes water for drinking from Fork now, and that's why the lake drops so much during the year.

lavon doesnt have to release water on the same river system therefore what you are saying about they have to release water doesnt make sense there is a pipeline for water use from fork to tawakoni then from tawakoni to hubbard IF THERE IS NO RAIN THE WATER DROPS ITS THAT SIMPLE

Wow, so much disinformation.....

I don't have the correct information, but I do know that a few years ago during the drought Hubbard was not as low as it is now........

So something has changed between now and then. It is not just 'normal' release.

I 'think' it had something to do with the Power Plant. Lavon used to have to fill Ray Hubbard, remember Lavon went 20 foot low during the drought but not Hubbard.. It wasn't more than a foot or two at that time. Last year/this year we've seen it 3 foot low.

Nah..just havent had a significant amount of rain. We really need Lavon to fill up. Once that happens RH will be full for a while.

In 2009 there was anywhere from a 10-20" surplus of rainfall from DFW to the east. Therefore, we had full lakes for the first half of last year.

In 2010 there was anywhere from a 10-20" deficit of rainfall from DFW to the east. And that is why we are struggling to fill up now.

Hopefully the same scenerio will play as it did in 06'/07'

Maybe it has to do with the extra million or so people in the Dallas water supply system......

Hubbard has been a lot lower than its current level. Not sure why everyone has their panties all twisted.
