Without getting into all of the details of what you should and shouldn't have done, I'll say this much: if I bought what I thought was a "new" reel and it turned out to be 4 years old, no, I wouldn't be very happy. I think it is safe to say that "new" implies that it is a recently manufactured item (emphasis on implies... no, new doesn't have to be defined as "just been made", but in today's society, I think it implies that it has just been made). I wouldn't call a 2007 truck that had never been sold before and never been driven a "new" truck; it's an older model than the "new" model. It's UNUSED, but I wouldn't really call it NEW, since I would expect a NEW truck to be the latest, most recent model. So yeah, I'd have to go back to the seller and say "Why didn't you say this thing was 4 years old???"

This post certainly makes me think twice about buying something without asking some pretty detailed questions. Never thought I'd have to get a definition of what "new in box" means... wink

NIB does NOT imply that it is a brand new model, at least not with fishing reels and it has been that way for as long as I can remember, and I have been buying reels for quite a few years now. When someone is selling a reel and it is advertised as a NIB reel it simply means that the reel has never been used. I have never seen one advertised as an old never been used reel. If it was his first reel to purchase this way then I can see where he was confused. Next time he should either get more information about the reel or purchase them from a store and pay full retail.

That is a good price for that reel as i have seen used ones sell for that much. To me, used means it is used and NIB means just that, its new in the box regardless of model. I wouldnt list it as a used reel either simply because it hasnt been used. If i was a buyer I would however wants pics before I purchase. Just my opinion. Hope it turns out ok.

I bought a NEW 09 truck in Feb of 2010 it was new because it hadnt been titled yet and had never been USED. Just because it wasnt the current model doesnt mean that it was used. Should of asked for pics and he did have the model number on it when he was selling it.
