Ok, that was really not my one guess. I would say a common bluegill. I know it has some unusual colors, but the overall body shape and ear flaps lead me to believe it is a bluegill. Lepomis Macrochirus

it looks like a cross between a long ear and one of those whitish bluegill i've caught a few of them

Man that's a tough one (Not the fish! Tough one is not my guess!) I would say bluegill, but it has a bigger mouth than most of the bluegills that I normally see. The bars on the side are not very distinct, but they are there and they puzzle me too. It's kinda got those aquamarine squiggles on the face too.  I always go with the odds when I'm in doubt and you can find longears in just about every color and shape variation you can think of and some that you ain't never thought of. I would guess a green sunfish. Doesn't have all of the hallmarks but looks like one to me!

I think it's straight up Lepomis Auritus. It has the blue cheeks and the flap is pure black.
