I've never used the skirt collars by THE SKIRT FACTORY, sold at BPS. But, I have to fix/refurbish some of my favorite jigs. Is there a special tool for doing this? They have a very small hole (they seem to be cut from something similar to heavy-wall surgical tubing, but small inside diameter). I need to replace some age-crack collars, and I want to replace the skirt on some of them (pick my own combinations). Has anyone done this, or do you just buy new jigs? Thanks
Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

If the skirt is still on the jig/spinnerbait. Take some small copper wire and wrap around the skrit at the collar and twist it tight. Or use a small zip tie to hold everything in place.
They make a hundred different skirt making tools but if you want one to make a few skirts with a couple times a year, just use a ball point pen split in quarters about half way down the pen. twist the skirt to gether to hold it in place inside the split section of pen. Roll a collar onto the pen and up the shaft of the pen onto the skirt.
takes all of about 20 seconds to make one.

another thing you can do if you do not want to get the tool is to take an ink pen apart. Tape your skirt together with masking tape, this will keep it together. put the taped end of the skirt into the big end of one side of the pen. Roll the collar onto the small end of the pen, then slide it over the skirt. getting the right size and stlye pen is key

If you can roll that collar up onto a ball point pen tube, then you can insert the skirt into the pen tube and roll the collar off the big end and onto the skirt. Then slide the skirt onto the jig hook. Use 2 skirt tabs to get about 40 strands. If you use wire you can use 26 gauge wire purchased in Hobby lobby.

I bought a neat little skirt tool at www.fishingskirts.com for less than $2.00 that makes it easy. I had every intention of going to Barlow's today to stock up skirt material but I got side tracked.

Tell me if I understand what you're saying. Does the homemade ballpoint pen 'tube' perform the same same function as the "Skirt Making Tool" that I see on the 'fishingskirts.com' site? In other words, do I first need to install all the skirt strands into the skirt collar prior to installing everything onto the jig? Thanks

That's what I would do, once the skirt layers are cut they are a pain to work with. Zip tie em or copper wire them.

That little skirt tool is exactly what I use for making my jig skirts. I just got a big order of skirts from them yesterday.

"Skirt Expander" www.nakedbaitco.com...coolest hand held skirt tool you'll ever see. My 8 year old daughter makes skirts with it. you can keep it on boat if you need to. I also have some other tools and kits if you need some suggestions. www.jaseoutdoors.com
