I notice 90% of people cast and retreive their spinning gear left handed. But when it is time for a bait caster, they use RH retrieve. I don't understand the logic. Especially when you cast with your right hand, then switch to your left hand to retrieve. Is it just the way it has always been done? Just wondering...

I think about that all the time. Ive tried fishing with a spin cast with my right hand before and it felt weird. But when I switch to my bait caster it has to be a right handed reel. I think its just wana those things that you get used to doing for yrs and you just stick to it.

I am left handed and I use right handed bait casters. When I use a spinning reel I still reel with my right hand (like most lefties do). So I am all sorts of backwards.

I like reeling with my right hand while using bait casters because I don't have to switch hands to start reeling. I just leave my left hand where it is and reel with the right.

Same here. It's about the only application that I know of off handed where left handed people aren't discriminated against in the design process. LOL !

I don't use spinning reals, but has been explained to me that why most 'righties' can do it, is the being more on top of the reel. Don't ask me the logic, just what I've always heard.

I am left handed and I use RH baitcasters, but I reel spinning reels with my left hand (I put the crank on the left side of the reel). I think it has to do with the availability of RH baitcasters, and the fact that you can switch spinning reels. I have been doing it for so long that changing would be very uncomfortable.

Everything I have is left handed. Had to switch 4 years ago due to a bad elbow.

But in a pinch I can do everythign right handed now too.

Being left handed I spent most of my younger life casting a baitcaster with my right hand then swapping hands to reel in, until one day I made up my mind to start casting with my left, took some work and a lot of bad cast but now all my reels are right handed and I wouldnt even try to make a right handed cast now

All my reels are right handed because they are the most common. But I cast with either hand, depending on direction, where I am on the boat, etc. I started pitching left handed a couple of years ago (due to some tendonitis in my right elbow), and now it's no problem.

I can still skip a bait better with my right hand, but I normally cast left handed now, regardless of what type of tackle I'm using. Lately, I've noticed my left hand getting much colder than my right, and then I switch hands and warm up my left.

That is crazy to think about, but I do the same thing. I am right handed, aswell. Feels odd to use a left handed baitcast and odd to use a right handed spin cast.

Guilty......another lefty on RH reels. At least my boater gets some humor out of it.

That's how I do it.
