Also, when a shrimp moves in the water, they kind of move in backwards jerks, which would look just like when a person would jig up and down. lots of talented jig makers on here, maybe somebody will try making some. I tried mixing some powder paint to try and make some feather type shrimp immitations, but really not happy with the tones that I got. Shrimp is not an easy color to make. Its kind of irridescent, pinkish, pearly brown.

I have something that kinda imitates the grass shrimp/small crayfish that works as you describe, I'm not sure where I got them though and have just about used all the plastics. They are similar to the ones pictured below, the closest thing I could find to them was the old 'flying lure'. Please note how they are rigged on the weighted jigs.

The action of the jig is awesome when used with a slip float, as when pulled the 'legs' flair open, and when falling it looks just like a shrimp/crawdad swimming backwards. I had some in watermelon-green and sand-pink colors, but have used all the sand ones up, total length of the plastic is about an inch and a half.

Does anyone know of a retailer that sells these or anything like them? They have always worked great for me, but I have never seen them for sale anywhere.

Back to the Gulp Alive, I bought a bucket of the smelt 2 1/2" back before last spring and tried them several times with only the tails getting bit off. Used the entire $20 bucket with only 2-3 fish actually caught. I then bought a $3 pkg of the smelt 2 1/2" (15 count) and put them in the Alive bucket full of liquid and let them soak for a week. Went out (it was July then) and fishing under the bridge, the only fish I caught that day (6-7) came off the Gulp bait (still not many fish for $23 investment).

Hey guys, before you count out Gulp Alive, try the 1" Fish Fry instead of Crappie Nibbles. I've found them to work great!

I had pretty good luck with the gulp.
that's when I realized, why try to trick them
and give 'em the real deal.
noidea
Also, why do so many big time pros push jigs when
they use minnows when it comes down to winning?
You can't package a live minnow and make as much money on it.

The big time Pros are trying anything they can other than seining to catch 7 fish to win a tourney.Pride comes into the picture for me to trick a crappie into taking a jig that looks fake -smells fake -and acts fake but will still catch a fish.Thats the challenge. Not puttin enough baits in the water that maybe I will get a fish to bite because its surrounded.Ok Im through.LOL Darrell
